Kashmir , known as the paradise in India is one of the most tourist attraction place in India. The beautiful landscapes of Kashmir makes us to visit that place many times.This place is danger and under terrorist attack. One of the most secured place and Indian army takes their complete effort to keep this state clean and terrorist free state. Politics also are very strong and many political leaders are on their effort to swipe away terrorism. This state is on the border of India and Pakistan. So extra attention are given by the Indian army. Serial bomb blasts makes discussion in the ruling and opposing party and change in the chief ministers. Some of the top political leaders from Jammu Kashmir are the following.

1. Sheikh Abdullah

Sheikh Abdullah, known as the Lion of Kashmir is one of the strongest politician that ever had. He was the leader of the Kashmirs strongest part named National Conference. In his earlier days an image of a leader began to structure in himself. His life began to change when he was a student. He was influenced by many political leaders with liberal and progressive ideas when he was studying in Aligarh Muslim university. The two leaders that motivated Sheikh Abdullah was Molvi Abdullah and Kashmiri Polymath. Their articles and speech made him to struggle for justice and fundamental rights. He made it very clear that the struggle was not a communal struggle. But the organization was a failure because of unfavorable reception of the non-Muslim parties. He came to see Jawaharlal Nehru and later both became friends and he took in some freedom movement for India. He formed a working committee of the Muslim conference for changing its name to National conference. It allowed people of different caste to stand against the autocratic rule of the Maharaja in 1938. After that he launched another movement named Quit Kashmir agitations against the Maharajah and he was arrested and was jailed for 3 years and was released after 16 months in 1947. It was in next year that his career changed to a Prime Minister of Kashmir on March 17,1948. On 1953 he was arrested and has to leave the position of prime Minster accusing that he had lost the confidence of his cabinet. He was the peacemaker when the Indo -Pak war became violent. He continuously visited Indira Gandhi , the prime minister of India and finally made into an agreement for a democratic government to rule the city. He died in 1982.

2. Omar Abdullah

One of the most efficient and youngest political leader form Jammu and Kashmir. He is at the age of 38 now. At the age of 31, he became the youngest Minister in the Indian Cabinet. He is the only son of Dr. Farooq Abdullah who is the present chief minister of Jammu Kashmir and Mollie Abdullah. Omar is the grandson of the king in politics Sheikh Abdullah. He is from a truly secure family and a family having good and strong political background. He is the Junior foreign minister and minister for Commerce and Industry in the centre. His speech is mind blowing and very effective. One of his speech at the parliament on July 22 is one of the valuable one and it made many praise for Omar. He addressed himself as ” I am a Muslim and an Indian too. I see no distinction between the two. I see no reason why I, as a Muslim, have to fear a deal between India and the United States of America (USA)…’. This speech stand out for a while. It was short and it was straight from the heart of Omar and punched out the hearts of millions. It had a maximum impact on people. His main achievements when he was the Minister of state for commerce and Industry, money was sanctioned to build an IT park in Srinagar. He is working very hard to keep Jammu clean from terrorism and trying to make it stand among with other nations. He is educated with Masters degree in Business Administration. His favorite past time is traveling, reading and he is good sportsman. His favorite sport is Squash.

3. Dr. Farooq Abdullah

He is the son of the greatest politician Sheikh Abdullah. He showed all his courage when he was the chief minister. He told in public that he is fearless in terrorism. He showed all the qualities of his father. He worked for the autonomy for his state. His speech made many enemies from Pakistan and he has been targeted many times. He was an active member when he lived in London for the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation front which claims for the complete independence for Jammu and Kashmir. He has been chief minister for three times. He retired from the politic field. His son is Omar Abdullah. Farroq is still active in politics and states that he want to be the president of India. He appointed many into the task of Jammu Kashmir force and was accused of non-violence and gross human rights violation.

4. Ghulam Nabi Azad

He is one of the senior leader of the Indian National congress. he stepped into politics in the year 1973 and he became the Block Secretary of congress committee of Blessa. Later in 1975 he became President of Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh youth Congress. he was elected as the general secretary of All India Youth congress. He became the successor of Sheikh Abdullah and he was appointed as the president of All India Muslim youth Conference from 1978 to 1981 and positioned as the general secretary of all india Congress commitee in 1987. He was nominated as the General Secretary for nine times. Ghulam Nabi Azad has been associated with various political and social organizations, some of which are Youth Services Committee, IX Asian Games, 1982. He has organize many camps and seminars for the youth on the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi. His favorite political leader was Gandhiji. He listens to the problem of the youth and forms many organizations representing them. His favorite past time was gardening and meeting people.

5. Mufti Mohammad Sayeed

Sayeed is the leader of Peoples Democratic party and a former Chief Minister of Jammu Kashmir. He has demanded dual currency in Kashmir. He was a member of Congress party. In 1987, he opted out from congress party to join VP Singh’s Janata Dal. Later he became the first Muslim Home Minister in the year 1989. After his join his third daughter was kidnapped by terrorist for taking office and they demanded for the release of their militants. Later he pressurized the government and they had been released. His daughter was then released by the terrorist. After that incident he then rejoined the congress under P.V Narasimha Rao. He then underwent many attacks and threats by the Kashmiri separatists who oppose Indian rule.

Punjab is the land of dedicated and country loving people to their most. Indian Prime minister Mr. Manmohan Singh is from Punjab. Their dedication is well noted world wide. We can see that the Sikh people are having a majority in the Indian army and ready to take any task which others refused. Punjab is lying between the borders of India and Pakistan. So they have to keep a major eye on the borders to prevent terrorism. Lets take a look on some of the top political leaders from Punjab.

1. Dr. Manmohan Singh

He is the current prime minister of India. Formerly he was the finance minister when Narasimha Rao was Prime Minister. He holds the record of the first Sikh to be the Prime minister. He is an economist by his professional and have a strong education career and his knowledge has a wide range. This made him popular in the middle class people. He has done a fantastic job when he was working in UN, International monetary fund he is highly praised by the people all around the world. He was working in the international monetary fund at his younger days. Some of the leaders criticize him as the ‘weakest prime minister ‘ that India ever had. He served as the Governor of the ‘Reserve Bank of India’ in the year 1982-85. After that he was posted as Finance minister of Cabinet by Narasimha Rao who was prime minister that time. Manmohan Singh has many achievements to his credit. main is the nuclear deal between India and U.S. He s still in control of economy in India and is achieving a record of 9 % of growth in economy. The important NREGA act and the RTI act were passed by the Parliament in 2005 during his tenure.

2. Beant Singh

He was the chief minister of Punjab in the year 1992-1995. He was a member of the congress party. A secular Sikh and member of the Congress Party, he was instrumental in fighting the movements for Khalistan and Sikh independence. He was the prime minister at the time of Indira Gandhi assassination. It was a big head ache to him because the killers were two Sikhs who were the bodyguards of Indira Gandhi. He helped restore agriculture and industry after the turmoil of the late 1980. He has done many works for the welfare of his nation Punjab. He was assassinated by the a car bomb in Chandigarh in 1995. the terrorist group named Babbar khalsa took the responsibility of the assassination.

3. Gulzarilal Nanda

Gulzaril Nanda, the name itself gives us strength and an image of a brave and courageous man. He was the acting Prime Minister of India twice, once after the death of Jawaharlal Nehru in 1964 and again in 1966 after Lal Bahadur Shastri`s death. On both occasions he acted for slightly less than a month, his term ending upon the election of a new leader of the Indian National Congress. He was an active member of the National planning committee. He is very much active in the labor problems and fights for their rights and positions. He initiated the Congress Forum for Socialist Action in 1962. He was Union Minister for Labour and Employment in 1962 and 1963 and Minister for Home Affairs from 1963 to 1966. He is the king of the poor people and he had a good support from these people. He was also given charge of the portfolios of Irrigation and Power. He was elected to the Lok Sabha from Bombay in the general elections of 1952 and was re-appointed Minister for Planning, Irrigation and Power.

4. Inder Kumar Gujral

One of the top political leader who fought for the Indian freedom. he was active in the quit India movement and was jailed at 1942. His blood was filled with Politics and Indian independence. His parents participated in the freedom movement. At the age of eleven he also participated in one of the freedom struggle and was caught by police and was beaten. He served as Prime Minister of India from 1997 to 1998. He was India’s Minister of External Affairs in 1989-90 and again in 1996-97. he is very well educated and holds the degree M.A., B.Com., Ph.D. and D.Litt. First he joined in Congress party and later he changed and joined in Janata Dal. He has served in many fields like Union Minister having portfolios in the Ministries of Communication and Parliamentary Affairs, Information and Broadcasting, Works and Housing ,  Planning and ministry of External Affairs. He is very much fluent in Urdu and finds his leisure time writing Urdu couplets. His wife Shiela Gujaral is one of the famous writers and have written many books.

5. Lala Lajpat Rai

He belonged to the era of the freedom fighting year. He is known as the Punjab Kesari which means “Lion of Punjab”. He was practicing laws at his early years and he became active in the fields of freedom movement. He co -ordinated with Gandhiji in the non-co operation movement in Punjab. Soon his leadership and his speech spread like afire and made people to gather into his party in mass. After that he has been identified as the “Punjab Kesari” meaning Lion of Punjab. His life was completely dedicated for the independence of India. He became active in papers and speeches. His word were hard hitting and made people to realize about Indian independence. He was the mentor for the rebel leaders like Bhagat Singh and Chandrasekhar Azad. He has opened many educational institutions for illiterate people. HIs supreme sacrifice came when he leaded a movement against the Simon Commission. He led a peaceful procession but later police became violent and charged people and they aimed mainly Lala Lajpat Rai. After that he gave a speech that “every blow aimed me are the nails for the coffin of British rule”. He was stubborn leader from Punjab.
