Assamese cinema was born in 1935. In Assamese movies, we can see a a slow-paced sensitive style. Assamese movies have now arrived in a brand new package. Made in the similar to the Bollywood movies, they are now drawing huge crowds and setting a new trend. A new dawn has finally arrived on the otherwise clouded skies of Assamese cinema and it has come a long way from its earlier counterparts.The status of Assamese cinema during the gone era can never be overlooked when we had sat through and enjoyed classics such as “Dr Bejbaruah”, “Chameli Memsaheb”, “Ajoli Nobow” etc. These were real chart busters in their own rights where, story, direction, plot all were equally impressive and noteworthy. Ashima Bhalla is a famous Indian actress. She appears in Hindi and Assamese movies. Bhalla gave her Hindi debut with “Pyaar Zindagi Hai” with Mohnish Bahl and Rajesh Khanna. She was the lead actress in the indian soap “Meri Awaz ko mil gayi roshni” on Star Plus. “Sudesi” (2006), “Alaudin” (2003), “Hathyar” (2002), “Na Tum Jaano Na Hum” (2002), “Ramana” (2002) , “Pyaar Zindagi Hai” (2001),” Daddy” (2001), “Great Target” (1991) are her major films. She is also acted in Telugu films.

Divya Desai is a famous Indian actress. She has acted in Assamese, Hindi, Bengali, Manipuri and Bhojpuri movies. Her credits include the Assamese movie “Kanyadaan”, in which she appeared with Jatin Bora, and the Bhojpuri movie “Kab Hoi Gauna Hammar”, in which she appeared with Ravi Kishan. Her Hindi debut, “Yeh Lamhe Judaai Ke”, was a flop. In this movie she played Sheetal, alongside Raveena Tandon. She played ‘Mandodari’ in Zee TV serial “RAAVAN”.
3.Mayala Goswami

Mayala Goswami is a famous Assamese actress. She acted in more than 25 stage plays. Her first appearance is in the lead role of “Menaka” in Dr. Bhabendra Nath Saikia’s film “Agnisnan”. The film was awarded the Best Screen Play Award in the National Film Festival. She awarded Rajat Kamal for Best Actress in 1992 for the film “Firingoti” directed by Jahnu Baruah. “Konikar Ramdhenu” (2003), “Aka Ride on the Rainbow” (International: English title), “Daman: A Victim of Marital Violence” (2001), “Firingoti” (1992), “Uttarkaal” (1990) “Heroine”, “Siraj” (1988), “Sarbajan” (1985) are some of her popular films.
4.Rimpi Das

Rimpi Das is a famous Assamese actress. She will make her debut in Kollywood in the film “Paali”. After acting in a range of roles in Assamese films, she will enter the more professional Tamil film industry which offers better career prospects. She initially wanted to be an air hostess, but she got sucked into films. She made her debut in Assamese film “Monot Birina Jui” after which she left school to pursue acting. She has acted in a few Hindi films too. Her favourite actress is Rani Mukherjee and that she wished to be as versatile as her in her film. She likes both positive and negative roles.
5.Jamuna Baruah

Jamuna Baruah was a famous Assamese artist. She died in November 2005. She was married to to the legendary actor director Pramathesh Barua. She began her acting career in her husband’s famous production “Devdas” in 1936 and was the film’s lead character “Parvati or Paro”. She went on to make a number of memorable movies in Assamese, Bengali and Hindi, notably “Amiri”, “Mukti”, “Adhikar” and “Sesh Uttar”. She stopped acting after Barua died. She has also acted in so many Bengali films .
