Tamil Nadu is a state where three major factors rules. They are Movies, politics and temples. They give more importance to these fields and are very much dedicated to it. These peoples are very much inspired by movies of their favorite stars. The ruling government also does more and more favors to the their people. They cut down the price of rice, loans and many more daily life requirements. They leave a remarkable offerings and activities. Some of the top leaders that ruled Tamil Nadu has been described below.
1. M.G Ramachandran (M.G.R)
MGR is one of the popular personality from Tamil Nadu. He was a very popular film actor and had a millions of die-hard fans and supporters from Tamil Nadu. When he entered into politics after his career in films every fans were happy to see him again in another field. Politics made MGR to get deeply into many poor people struggling for their lives. Hearing their pains and fighting for their freedom and rights made him an icon of Tamil Nadu. He was called as “Puratchi Thalaivar” which means ‘Revolutionary leader’. He used his massive fans from his movies and changed them into millions when he started his second career ie as a politician. MGR joined with the popular political party named DMK in 1974 with Karunanidhi. But it began to their parting ways when MGR issued some unfolded facts of their party. After parting ways with the DMK, MGR launched the Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam. In the 1977 state Legislative Assembly elections, MGR’s ADMK won a resounding victory over the DMK. MGR and his political offspring, the ADMK never looked back after that. Until his death in 1987, MGR comfortably won the two subsequent state Legislative Assembly elections. The name of his party was later changed to AIADMK, with the prefix “AI” standing for All India. When he decide to jump into politics,many opposed him from that decision. But he was rock steady and specified that it is the only field that he can serve more to his people and get into them.
2. Karunanidhi
Karunanidhi is a man who is deeply indulged in politics at the age of 14. The inspiration began to start when he heard the speech of Aligirisway of the justice party. At that age he founded a local party for the youth. and made flow a newspaper which was handwritten to all the members. Karunanidhi was also from Tamil movie industry and is deeply related to it. He was the script writer of many movies first. He is said to have written 70 scripts for Tamil movies. Karunanidhi is been called as ‘Kalainjar’. He is very much attached and his icon was C.N Annadurai who was the founder of the party DMK. Upon the death of C.N.Annadurai of cancer, Karunanidhi became Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on February 10, 1969. His first term as chief minister lasted until January 4, 1971. After that year also DMK made a win in 1971 elections and Karunanidhi became Chief Minister for the second time at that year. He is very eager to start industries and tries to establish as a rich state in India by allowing more multi national companies to start in Tamil Nadu. He has built Tidel software park. Many more advanced technologies and industries have been offered to start in Tamil Nadu by the Karunanidhi Government. He is currently the chief minister of Tamil Nadu.
3. Jayalalitha
Jayalalitha, another person from the Tamil movie industry. She came into the movie industry when she was a child. She is known as Dr.Puraitchi Thalaivi of Tamil Nadu .She is the main follower of MGR and his party. Right now she is the leader of AIADMK and opposition party in Tamil Nadu. She came into politics at 1984 and later nominated to Rajya Sabha in 1984. She was the first woman leader of the opposition in the Legislative Assembly of Tamil Nadu. She is known as the ‘Iron Lady’ of India. She took an oath when she was abused by the DMK members in the assembly that she would enter into assembly only as chief minister. During these days she has to face many ups and down in the world of politics. She was Chief Minister from 24-06-1991 to 12-05-1996, from 14-05-2001 to 21-09-2001 and from 02-03-2002. She has many issues when she was ruling regarding very well held expensive marriage of her foster son. She has been accused for her income tax and its verifications. She has dedicated her life into politics and she is unmarried till date.
4. C.N Annadurai
One of the most senior, veteran man from the world of politics. He is the first non-Congress in Tamil Nadu. He was the man before MGR and Karunanidhi. The full name was Conjeevaram Natarajan Annadurai. ‘Anna’ means brother in Tamil. He got inspiration from the rationalist and Dravida Kazhagam leader E.V Ramasamy Naicker also known as Periyar (elder). His speech was very much exciting and makes thousands of followers. It was his speech that a defeated minister climb up to this position. He was very much against the non considerations of the south Indians. Mainly he had two complaints that is the discrimination against the southern states and imposition of the Hindi Language. He made a tremendous speech over this which made Jawaharlal Nehru who was the prime minister of India shocked by his speech in parliament. The big era of Tamil nadu politics came to an end at 1969. He was suffering from cancer. The nation deeply mourned for his funeral and attended a record of 15 million people.
5. Kamaraj
The man who rose from the Nadar (next-to-lowest) caste to become chief minister of Madras (later Tamil Nadu) and president of the Congress Party. He is known as the Kingmaker in the world of politics. He was born in1903. It was the life and the vision of Gandhiji that made kamaraj deeply involved and responsible into politics. His visions and speeches made many enemies and was thrown into jail several times. He has spent 8 years of imprisonment. He acquired more knowledge when he was jailed through books. He became Tamil Nadu chief minister at 1954 and remained as Chief Minister for three consecutive terms. He quitted from congress when he felt that the congress party was slowly losing its vigor. It made him to establish his own plan which is called as “Kamaraj plan”. Kamaraj rose from the lowest Congress ranks during the freedom struggle to become the president of the Tamil Nadu Congress Party for over 20 years. His ways of walking,his speech,dressing etc commend themselves to many millions. Though he had no education he manages to be a veteran in most of the languages and knowledge. His entire life was dedicated to politics and is unmarried.
