Some of the popular sportsmen from Tamil Nadu are the following.

1. Vishwanathan Anand

The great grandmaster in the event Chess. His sharp mind and faster moves have earned him many crowns. The most important among them is the International title. He is the current world chess champion. He is the living legend in chess. His awesome speed has made nickname called “Lightning Kid”. The signs of his geniuses had been expelling from him at the age of fourteen when he won the National Sub-Junior Chess Championship in 1983. His achievements began to chapter from this age. At 16 he won the World Junior Championship in chess. At the age of 18 he earned the title Indian Grandmaster. The success began to be a feather to his crown. His simplicity and silence to any critics made him to this level. Recently Tamil Nadu government rewarded him 25 lakhs for his achievements. He works out daily 2 hrs for keeping body fit which results in his mental strength. His greatest achievements was acquired in the year 2007. That was the year of his milestone. FIrst one was his long time goal and wish to be the number one in chess ratings. He overtook Topalov to claim first place on FIDE’s April list.

2. Krishnamachari Srikanth

Srikanth is on of the popular personality from Tamil Nadu. He was the first one from Tamil Nadu to be known as the famous personalties. He was the former Indian cricketer from Tamil Nadu. He was born in 1959 at Chennai. He was in the world cup team under Kapil Dev’s captaincy at 1983. He was the opening batsmen with Sunil Gavaskar. He is the best cricketer that a team and a captain could ever have. He is often called as “Kris” by his team mates and fans. It was Vivian Richardson and Srikanth who discovered the concept of hard hitting shot over the heads of fielders. He was the first batsmen who used the complete 15 overs for the benefit of scoring runs that time. Two of the greatest victory of India was World Cup 1983 and Benson & Hedges world championship at 1985. He played a vital role in both of this matches. He was one of the jovial cricketer in side and outside the field. He was very disciplined and silent player in the field. After his retirement he is seen as commentator and reports after that match.

3. Narain Kaarthikeyan

He is the first Indian in Formula 1 racing. His father Karthikeyan was a former Indian national rally champion. He struggled a lot in his time to be marked as a rally driver. After years of Hardwork and endurance, he reached sucess. At his early days when he was a youngster speed was his fantasy and makes him thrilled. He is greatly fascinated by speed. Later he became a huge fan of high-octane sport. Later he was trained at the famed Elf Winfield School Narain had a dream debut at the Pilole Elf competition for Formula Renault. Narain is the Driver for Williams at 2006 F1. He became the first Indian to win the British Formula Ford Winter Series, one of his many first. He is a brave driver that India has ever seen. Now he continues to drive for the A1 team India. He achieved the Chinese and Brands hatch races. His perfect drive and acceleration have been praised all over the world. This resulted in India finishing 10th during the season, ahead of Australia, Brazil, Italy and China.

4. Ramesh Krishnan

Ramesh Krishnan was born on June 5th 1961 in Chennai. He is one of the best tennis players India has produced. He is the son of Ramanathan Krishnan, another great man of tennis. Ramesh made his debut in 1977 for the Davis Cup, and played for India for almost a decade. He won the under 16 title in USA. In 1993 he won the Davis Cup quarter finals against France. He was ranked no 23 on the ATP list in 1985. Ramesh retired officially from tennis in 1993. He now runs a tennis academy in Chennai.

5. Sadagopan Ramesh

One of the opening Batsmen of India few years ago. His aggressiveness was well noted by the selectors when he was playing county and domestic. He made his entry into the test match between the India and Pakistan. Being an opening batsmen he has to face the bowling legends like Wasim Akram, Shoaib Aktar and Waqar Younis. He struggled a lot for his position in the Indian team. He was very famous for his cover drive and makes bowl to reach the fence in seconds. He was caught by the injury and it caused him to be dropped from many ODI’s .It was an injury occurred at the bad time of his career. It made a major blow for him. He faced many critics because of his stable footwork movements. He is very stable and a calm person in nature. He was also included in the Australian tour and he has to face challenges from media and selectors that he could not score runs. But he proved them wrong that he can score runs any conditions. He is also playing in domestic cricket nowadays and giving practice for upcoming talents. He has also tried his luck in Tamil movie industry. He did a throughout role in one of the super hit movie”Santhosh Subramaniam”.
