Greece is one of the country which haven’t raised hopes according to their stand. They were slashed to 52nd rank this time. Last year they were ranked 15th which was their highest rank in any Olympics. This time they received 4 medals including silver and bronze. They didn’t received any gold for this Olympics. It was really a big blow for Greece. Ilias Iliadis was the flag bearer at the opening ceremony of this Summer Olympics 2008. Now lets check out the four medalist of Greece.

1. Alexandros Nikolaidis

Alexandros Nikolaidis is one of the expert taekwondist from Greece. He is the consecutive medalist for the last two Summer Olympics. FOr this summer Olympics 2008 he won a silver medal for Taekwondo for his 80kg weight category. He won the same category for last Olympics also. He is a blessed player for the game Taekwondo. He has the perfect body requirements. He has a very long long leg length which is often used against himby many of his small counterparts. He plays quite frequently in most international competitions and he is often seen at many of the European Taekwondo Opens. It was a great start for him and for his career by winning in this Olympics and World University Championships.

2. Dimitrios Mougios, Vasileios Polymeros

They are the magical pair in rowing from Greece. They won silver for this Summer Olympics 2008. They also won a bronze medal for the last summer Olympics at Athens. They won for the event Lightweight Men’s Double Scull. The pair pumped the air as they went over the finish line and they stood up to wave to fans after holding off a fast finishing second at the Shunyi lake. They took silver for the world championships 2007 at the same events by finishing in 6 minutes and 25.89 seconds. They lost their gold emdal at a time of 1.68 seconds with the Denmark team.

3. Hrysopiyi Devetzi

Hrysopiyi Devetzi is the medal Hope for Greece. She is the consecutive winner for the last two Olympics. She won a bronze medal for her country for this Summer Olympics 2008. But she didn’t performed well when compared to the last Athens Olympics. Last time she received a silver medal for her performance. She represented Greece this time and carries a torch to the Olympic flame. The 32 year old athlete represented Greece well this year and in 2004 she brought home a silver medal. Their co ordination was very well noted and the duo received many awards and honors from their country. She is the leading triple jumper in world. For this Summer Olympics 2008 she covered a distance of 15.23m.

4.  Sofia Bekatorou, Sofia Papadopoulou, Virginia Kravarioti

These three are sailors from Greece. They won a bronze medal for this Summer Olympics 2008. From start to finish, these ladies of Greece ruled the waves, and earned their way to the top of the podium and the first medal for the Greece in sailing. Sofia Bekatorou, Sofia Papadopoulou, and Virginia Kravarioti earned every bit of their medals with solid performances, and were clearly the dark horses in this race. They were very proud with their victory and thanked every people from greece for their support. Their category was in Yngling class.

Bahamas ranked 65 in this summer Olympics. The country competed in 3 sports with 19 competitors. Debbie Ferguson was the flag bearer of the country in the opening ceremony in Beijing. They achieved 1 silver and 1 bronze medal in this summer Olympics. The women’s 4×100m relay team of Bahamas claimed gold at the 2000 games in Sydney, Australia. Tonique Williams-Darling won the Bahamas’ first individual gold for the 400m at 2004 Games in Athens, Greece. Their performance in Beijing is not much better than in Athene’s. In Beijing they can’t achieve any gold medal. They won 2 medals in Beijing. The winners of the 2008 Olympics are the following.

1.Andretti Bain,Michael Mathieu,Andrae Williams,Chris Brown(Men’s 4×400m relay)

The mens relay team of Bahamas won the silver medal for the 4×400m relay in this summer Olympics. The US team won the gold medal for the same event. Bahamas took the silver in 2:58.03. Russia finished in the third place.The Bahamas has a rich history in the women’s 4×100 meters from winning the silver medal at the 1996. Andretti Bain told that the victory was good. Their team is great and is quite capable and it was amazing. US won the gold medal with a new record. Andretti Bain, Michael Mathieu, Andrae Williams, Chris Brown were the team members. Andretti Bain is specialized in 400m and was the NCAA Indoor champion for 400m in 2008. He set an indoor personal best of 46.02 in the preliminary round. A Bahamian sprinter Michael Mathieu was also a part of the this team. Andrae Williams won silver medal in the World championships also. Christopher Brown mainly competes in 400m. Brown won gold medals for 400m relay in 2007.

2.Leevan Sand

Bahamas triple jumper Leevan Sands won the bronze medal for the men’s triple jump in the 2008 Beijing Olympics. He was born in Nassau. His personal best jump is 17.50 metres, achieved in Odessa. This is the current Bahamian record. He has been suspended for testing positive to a banned substance and won’t compete at the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne. He won a bronze medal for the 2003 World championships. He finished in the sixth place in the 2007 Pan American games. In the 2005 World championships he finished in the fourth place. Nelson Evora of Portugal won the silver medal for the event in Beijing. Phillips Idowu of Great Britain won the silver medal.
