In Beijing Egypt competed in 17 sports with 103 competitors. They achieve only one bronze medal. They participated in rowing, shooting, swimming, table tennis etc. The country receives only a bronze medal in judo in Beijing. Karam Gaber was the flag bearer in the opening ceremony at Beijing. Egypt won a total of five medals in Athens, more medals than they had won at all Olympic Games since 1948. 1.Hesham Mesbah
An Egyptian judoka Hesham Mesbah won the bronze medal for the 90 Kg judo in the 2008 Beijing Olympics. At the age of 26, Mesbah is already paving the way for the current national Judo team. Mesbah was driven by his brother Hany and started playing Judo at the age of 9 in Ittihad Club in Alexandria where he was born. His first coach was Fathy El-Gebily. He practiced in the Al Etehad Alsakandry club in Alexandria, Egypt. He finished second in the African Judo championships . He won the Africa games in 2007 with a gold medal. He became first in the African judo championships in 2004 and 2006. In the bronze medal match in Beijing, he was defeated Dafreville of france .
