BILLU BARBER
‘Billu Barber’ movie is the Valentine gift of Sharukh Khan to his fans. This Bollywood movie is released on 13th February, 2009. This movie is directed by the famous director Priyadarsan and produced by Shahrukh Khan and his wife Gauri Khan. This film is adaption from the Malayalam movie ‘Kadha Parayumbol’ in which Sreenivasan and Mamooty are in leading roles. Irrfan Khan and Lara Dutta are main characters of this Bollywood movie and Shahrukh Khan appeared in the role of a movie star. Om Puri, Rajpal Yadav and Asrani are also appeared in supporting roles and glamorous actresses like Kareena Kapoor, Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra are making this film excellent with their guest appearance in this film. Actually, it is the sweet story of friendship between a Barber and a movie star just similar the friendship between Krishna and Sudama. Irrfan Khan and Shahrukh Khan made their role as a barber and movie star as excellent. With good direction, good actors and good music, this film is expected to be the biggest hit of this year.

MOVIE REVIEW

‘Billu Barber’ tells the story of a village barber Billu (Irrfan Khan) and his childhood friend, a famous movie star Saahir Khan (Shah Rukh Khan). This movie revolves around the life of Billu, his wife and their two kids. Billu and his family are living in a village. Billu is a village Barber. Billu cannot be able to move with changing trends, so his business is running slow, and he leads a poor life. One day, a film unit visits his village to shoot a movie. The superstar Saahir Khan as the movie hero. Billu tells everyone in the village that the hero Saahir Khan is his old friend. Then the villagers began to like Billu. Soon Billu’s status in the village changes, and he becomes highly respected a person of the village. Everyone wants him to meet the superstar. So Billu makes many attempts to meet the star, but fails. After all these hardships, he gives up his desire to meet his old friend. However, villagers and his family members are believed that he was lying about his friendship with Saahir . In the end of the movie, in an invited school function, the star reveals his past. He tells the audience that how much his friend helped him by providing food, clothes in his childhood. He tells that the friend gave him the money to join acting by selling his ancestral ear ring, and he acclaims that his life owes to that friend ‘Billu’. Then the friendship between Saahir and Billu revealed and thus the movie happily ends. Overall the movie marked a 3/5 rating.

MUSIC

This movie had a very long song collections. Billu Barber contains beautiful 15 songs. Songs are composed by Pritam for the lyrics of Gulzar, Sayeed Qadri and Ashish Pandit . Singers of this movie are Kay Kay, Rana Mazumder, Sunidhi Chauhan and Suraj etc. The song ‘Ae Aa O’ is the introduction of Sharukh Khan in the film. In this song uses heavy guitar ant it is the first rock track of the film. ‘Love Mera Hit Hit’ is strictly average track sung by Neeraj Shridhar. ‘You Got Me Rocking and Reeling’ is the decent music along with good lyrics. This song reflects pure and innocent love remains intact. ‘Billoo Bhayankar’ sung by Raghuveer Yadav is a fun track song which we will remember for long time. CONTROVERSY

“Billu” is the new name of the movie “Billu Barber”. Hairdressers’ Associations of Mumbai objected the use of Barber in the title, then Shahrukh khan decided to take Barber off from the name and Billu Barber will be called just “Billu” from now on. Sharukh Khan’s this film is released on 13th February. So this is considered to be the Valentine’s gift of Sharukh Khan to his fans. However, this year’s Valentine’s day is a very bad day for Sharukh khan, because his house “Mannath“was attacked on 13th February, the releasing day of his home production movie Billu Barber by some unknown villains. They threw glass bottles filled with kerosene at the gates of his residence. When the incident happened, none of member’s were present in the house. The security men at the house failed to catch the unidentified persons. Complaints are registered and police are investigating the incident. Nowadays, he received extreme anger from Barber community, because they felt that Sharukh’s new movie Billu Barber was insulting the barber community and also he support Valentine Day celebrations. People believes that these are the reasons behind the attack of his bungalow.

COLLECTIONS

Billu Barber made a decent opening at the box office. With the presence of Shah Rukh Khan, the movie did a very decent collections in international markets. This is mainly due to the impact of King Khan that this movie had done favorable business outside India. In the UK box-office, Billu managed to be at the 14th position and collected a whopping amount of £ 2,79,448 [approx. Rs. 1.95 crores] on 53 screens. In the case of US box-Office, Billu is at the position of 29 and collected $ 5,12,124 [approx. Rs. 2.55 crores] on 70 screens. Same in the case of Australian box-Office the movie collected a approx. Aus. $ 1,06,717 [approx. Rs. 34.09 lacs] on 15 screens. This could be one of the greatest news for Shahrukh Khan.
