Now Indian music maestro, A.R. Rahman’s dream comes true. His dream is his music to be played all over the world. By winning two Oscar awards for his music, he fulfilled his dream and became the hero of all music lovers in the world. He gained two Oscars awards for Best Original song for “Jai Ho” and best background score in Danny Boyle’s award winning movie “Slumdog Millionaire”. By winning these awards, he became the first Indian musician to win an Oscar as well as the first Indian to win two Oscars. Actually, these awards are in the honor of his marvelous music that he has been making for over a decade, and he really deserves that award.

BIOGRAPHY

Rahman was born in Tamil Hindu family as the son of R. K. Shekhar, who was a composer and conductor for Malayalam films. His original name was A.S. Dileep Kumar.  He belongs to a musical family . At the age of 4, he started to learn classical piano from his father and at the age of 9, his father dead and all the responsibilities of his family fell on him.  As a way to earn money, his family rented music equipments. At the age of 11, following his father’s footsteps, he was worked as a keyboardist and  joined Ilayaraja’s troupe as a keyboard player. He dropped the school in ninth grade, and he engaged in playing keyboards for composers. Rahman played many instruments like a keyboard, piano, the synthesizer, the harmonium and the guitar and he played in the orchestra of Zakir Hussain, M.S. Vishwanathan, and Ramesh Naidu on world tours and he won a scholarship to the Trinity College, Oxford where he gained a degree in Western classical music. Due to some personal problems, he and his family converted into Islam, and he became known as A.R Rahman. He always considered his mother and God are most important aspects of his life, whatever the changes made in his life. He is married to Saira and has three children. This musical genius considered his musical profession more important than anything else. So he is not more attached to his personal life.  He also involved in various social services. In 2004, he was appointed as the Global Ambassador of the Stop TB Partnership, a project by WHO, and he had supported to charities including “Save the Children” in India.

CAREER

His career started on an advertising field by composing more than 300 jingles. In 1989, he started his own music recording and mixing studio attached to the backyard of his house called the “Panchathan Record Inn”,  which became developed into one of the most well-equipped and advanced sound recording studios in India.  The year 1992 is the breakthrough year of his career. In 1992, he got a chance to compose musics for India’s famous director Mani Ratnam’s film “Roja”. All songs of the film “Roja” brings a tremendous change in film music at that time and Rahman became popular through his songs of that film. He was awarded with Rajat Kamal and best music director at National film awards through the musics of this film. After that he continued his musical career by providing the successful musical score for various language films. His musics in Tamil films like “Bombay”, “Kadhalan”, “Karuththamma”, “Duet”, “Indira”, “Gentleman”, “Indian”, “Jeans”, “Mudhalvan”, “Nayak” and “Sivaji” brings great popularity among the audiences. All people attracted to his versatility in the music including in Western classical, Carnatic, Tamil traditional/folk, jazz, reggae and rock music. Rahman made his appearance in Bollywood by providing musical score in Ram Gopal Varma’s “Rangeela”. His musical work creates a more vibrations in Hindi films like ” Dil Se”, “Taal”, “Zubeidaa”, “Laagan”, “Rang De Basanti”, “Guru”, “Jodhaa Akbar”, “Jaane Tu . He is a very lucky person for getting chances to work with famous Indian poets and lyricists such as Gulzar, Mehboob, Vairamuthu and Vaali and famous directors such as Mani Ratnam and S. Shankar. He also got the chance to provide a musical score in Mandarin language picture “Warriors of Heaven and Earth” in 2003 and Shekhar Kapoor’s “Elizabeth: The Golden Age” in 2007.  In 2008, he provided the music in Danny Boyle’s award winning movie  “Slumdog Millionaire” which brought him two Oscar awards. Really, he is an extra ordinary man who has changed the meaning of music and things related to music. We hope that he will win more and more Oscar awards in coming years.

A.R.RAHMAN’S CONTRIBUTIONS TO SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE

All musics of this film is composed by this legendary music director A. R. Rahaman. All songs are remains true to the nature of the movie. Rahman won two Oscar award for Best Original song for “Jai Ho” and best background score in this award winning movie “Slumdog Millionaire” . By winning this award, he became the first Indian musician to win an Oscar as well as the first Indian to win two Oscars. He won many awards like Golden Globe Awards, British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA),  Black Reel Awards etc for his musical score in this movie. This is the great achievement of his life. After receiving Oscar awards, he tells that he was dedicate these awards to his country India and also say thanks to all crew of “Slumdog millionaire” especially Danny Boyle who gave him such a great opportunity and the people of mumbai and also he thanked his mother for helping him reach this stage.

This musical genius had gained countless awards in his musical career. He got many national and international awards. He won National Film Award for Best Music Direction for 4 times, Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Music Direction for 6 times, Film fare Best Music Direction for 12 times, Film fare Awards for 11 times, Bollywood Movie Awards, Global Indian Film Awards (GIFA), International Indian Film Academy Awards (IIFA), MTV Awards, Sangeet Awards, Zee Cine Awards etc. He also won many awards in International level. He won Oscar awards, Golden Globe Awards (United States), British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA)(United Kingdom), Broadcast Film Critics Association Awards (United States), New York Film Critics Online Awards (United States), Satellite Awards (United States), Black Reel Awards, Los Angeles Film Critics Association Awards (United States), Phoenix Film Critics Society Awards etc for his musical score in  “Slumdog Millionaire”. He also won Mauritius National Award and Malaysian Award for his contributions to music. He also got Civilian honors like Kalaimamani given by the Government of Tamil Nadu for contributions to music, Padma Shri (India), National Lata Mangeshkar Award and Mahavir-Mahatma Award.

IRFAN KHAN

Danny Bolye’s award winning movie “Slumdog Millionaire” is super hit in all around the  world. In this film, the role of a police officer is handled by an Indian actor named Irfan Khan. He won the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture  through his performance of this film.  “Slumdog Millionaire” also gained many awards like 8 Oscar awards, Critics’ Choice Awards, Golden Globes, BAFTA Awards etc. So it is the great luck of Irfan to be a part of this great movie.

BIOGRAPHY

Irfan Khan is a all rounder in the entertainment field. Because he proved his talent as a actor in the film, television and theater. He was born in Jaipur to a Nawab family. He got a selection at National School of Drama in 1984 through a scholarship where he earned his M.A degree. After graduation, he moved to Bombay, the main center of India’s Hindi film and television industry. In Bombay, he acted in many television serials like “Chanakya”, “Sara Jahan Hamara”, “Banegi Apni Baat”, “Chandrakanta” , and  “Star Bestsellers”  etc. Through his performance in serials “Banegi Apni Batt” and “Chandrakanta” , he got very popularity in India. He made his first appearance in the film field as a cameo role in Mira Nairs film “Salaam Bombay” in 1988. But his role was removed before the release of this film. Then he continued his career in television serials and make a great impact on the serials. To get a break from the serials, he also acted in many films like Tapan Sinha’s “Ek Doctor Ki Maut” with Shabana Azmi. Eventhough this film gained the National Film Award for Second Best Feature Film, but Irfan’s performance was not noticed by audience. He got a break in film field when he was acted as main role in the Asif Kapadia’s film “The Warrior”. This film showed in international film festival and Irfan Khan became popular through the performance of this film. After that, he appeared as a leading role or a supporting role as a villain in many bollywood films like “Maqbool”, “Rog”, “Haasil”, “Metro”, “The Namesake” etc. He also showed his talent in international films like “A Mighty Heart” and “The Darjeeling Limited”. This year is the best time for his cinema career because his role as the police inspector in Danny Boyle’s Oscar winning movie “Slumdog Millionaire” is appreciated by many audiences. Also his performances in his latest movies “Billu Barber” and “Delhi-6″ was excellent. Irfan Khan is married to writer Sutapa Sikdar and they have two sons.

IRFAN KHAN’S CONTRIBUTIONS TO SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE

In Danny Boyle’s award winning movie “Slumdog Millionaire”, Irfan Khan is played the role of police inspector. This movie tells the story of a slum boy who appears on the Indian version of “Who Wants to be a Millionaire” show and wins that show. Irfan played the role of police inspector who is investigating a possible fraud when that slum boy wins on that television show “Who Wants to be a Millionaire?”. His role in this film is very interesting and he won the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture through his performance in this film. It is the biggest achievement of his life. Irfan expressed his happiness when “Slumdog Millionaire” won 8 Oscar award by saying that this film will bridge the gap between the cinemas of East and West and it will lead to further cooperation between India and world cinema.

This extra ordinary actor had gained many awards through his performance in the films. He won Filmfare best villain award for the movie “Haasil” and Filmfare best supporting actor award for “Life in a Metro”. Recently he won Screen Actors Guild Award for outstanding performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture for “Slumdog Millionaire”. He was also nominated for Black Reel award for Best Ensemble for the film “Slumdog Millionaire”, Independent Spirit Award Best Supporting Male award for the film “The Namesake”, Screen award for Best Performance in a Negative Role for the film “Maqbool” and also Popular Award for Best Performance in a Villainous Role for the films “Maqbool” and “Hassil”. He had also honored by the British House of Commons for his outstanding contribution to the Indian cinema.
