Outlander is the new science fiction film released on January 23 in Hollywood. This film was directed by Howard McCain. The main character of this film is James Caviezel who is famous for his brilliant role as Jesus Christ in “The Passion of Christ”. It is the first film in history, which uses North Germanic language, the ancestor of Modern Icelandic and several other Scandinavian languages. Actually, this film is a combination of science fiction and Viking film generations.

MOVIE REVIEW

The story of this movie begins when a space craft crashes into the majestic fjords of ancient Norway and into the time of the Vikings. From that damaged space ship, two unknown persons-a soldier from another world named Kainan and a bloodthirsty creature known as the Moorwen is reached on the earth. Both are enemies and Moorwen’s home world was invaded by Kainan’s tribe. Both these creatures, man and monster seek revenge for violence committed against them. Moorwen started to destroy the viking world by killing everything and Kainan with the help of warriors, started to fight against Moorwen. This battle causes many damages in the viking world and many people leave the village in search of a new home and safety. Even so, Kainan with the help of remaining warriors and with his ancient Iron Age weapons continue his battle with the Moorwen. At last Kainan killed that monster and became king of the vikings. Jim Caviezel makes alien Kainan as an opposing hero with a dark past.  He is a brilliant actor, and he proves that he can be able to make his character more identifiable than it actually is. In this film, we can also see love in between Kainan and Freya, the daughter of viking village king. Sophia Myles is acted as Freya and she also made her role as excellent. This movie is a cult movie and not an entertaining movie.

This film got mixed reviews from all around the world. Some people commented that it is a great scientific fiction movie. The script, sets, music and cinematography were good and acting of James Caviezel and Sophia Myles are excellent. The battle scenes were very well done and monster, Aliens, Vikings and Spacemen give a new look to this movie. The story of this movie is simple and production design, the costumes were also very good. Some people like Hollywood Reporter Ray Bennett commented that it is the entertaining nonsense with special effects. The characters like Aliens, monster is more terrible than life characters.

Famous director Bala’s latest Tamil movie “Naan Kadavul” was released on 6th February. Aarya and Pooja are main characters of this movie. Bala is a very popular and talented director in Kollywood. He is not a commercial director but a very talented one in Tamil movie industry. He is very different from other directors because he created his movie characters very strong and notable. So all his movies like “Sethu”, “Nandha”, “Pitha Mahan” and “Naan Kadavul” make a commercial hit in the box-office. All his movies won many awards like his first film “Sethu” won the “Silver Lotus Award” for the best regional Film. All these movies are notable for their good moral story and actors got to break through these films. Vikram got a break through his performance in “Sethu” and Surya got to break in “Nandha”. Vikram won a National award for the best actor through his performance in “Pitha Mahan” which is the highest honor of his career. Now it’s the time of Arya to create a magic in his career through this movie “Naan Kadavul“. This movie is mainly shot in pilgrim centers like Kasi, Varanasi, Kanchipuram and Periyakulam. The climax scene is said to be shot for 26 days and that will be the main attraction of this movie. Bala’s earlier movies are dubbed in Hindi and Kannada version, and they are also major hits in that versions. Now this new movie “Naan Kadavul” is also planning to dub in many languages. This film reveals the life of a Aghori sadhu. The music of this movie is composed by the vetran music director Ilayaraja. Bala also introduces many new comers like Rajendran, a popular stunt artiste,director Singampuli, producer Azhagam Thamizhmani, Keerthana and a physically challenged singer Kovai Krishnamurthy in this new movie. The direction, screenplay, acting and music everything was truly excellent in “Naan Kadavul”. So we will hope that Bala’s this film also won many awards and became a super hit in India.

MOVIE REVIEW

This movie is about a father coming to Kasi in search of his son Rudran (Aarya). Several years ago, that father leaves his son in Kasi for some astrological reasons. He finds his son in Kasi but he was shocked to understand that his son has become ‘Agori’. Agori realized themselves as God. If somebody is suffering severely and struggling to live, Agoris will kill them by the name of ‘moksha’. In Kasi, Rudran was adopted by a Guru, and he became an angry young man, and he grows long hair and beard, which give him an evil look. He is very rude to others and lives in another world like Sanyasis. He had no human feelings, but he had a power of 1000 elephants. The father brings back his son to the native village Malaikovil where he met one cruel person called Thandavan (Rajendran), who controls a beggar mafia. One day that beggar mafia kidnaps a blind beggar singer Hamsavalli (Pooja) and forces her to join in their group. The story of these movie changes in another direction when Thandavan arranges Hamsavalli’s marriage with an ugly rich person. She escapes from his custody, and she goes to the Aghori group for the help. Thandavan captures Hamsavalli again and beats her brutally. Then Rudran fights with Thandavan and killed him. At last by the request of Hamsavalli, Rudran gives ‘moksha’ to Hamsavalli by killing her, and he returns to Kasi to join his Guru. The movie shows the life of the beggar and the life of aghoras. The actor Arya has done super performance as Rudran. His yogi poses, the log hair on his face, shinning eyes etc are attracted the audience very much. Actress Pooja gets the sympathy of the audience by performing her blind role, and she proves that she is the talent actress in Kollywood. If you watch this film, it surely takes you to an entirely different world of Agoris and Beggars.

MUSIC

This movie has six beautiful songs. Musics are composed by veteran music director Ilayaraja. All songs are perfectly match the situation of the movie.The song ‘Om Sivoham’ is fully devotional song sung by Vijay Prakash. Ilayaraja’s magical tunes ‘Kannil Parvai’ is best with the singer Shreya Ghosal. ‘Amma Un Kovil’ song polished rhythmical beats blending the Tabla along with Congo Drums offers the much needed relief.
