India’s petrochemicals giant Reliance Industries Chairman and MD, Mukesh Ambani is added another title in his name. Now he is the most richest person in Asia. He overtakes the NRI steel tycoon Lakshmi N. Mittal in the US magazine Forbes’s list of world billionaires for 2009.  Anil Ambani ranked in the 7th position with a net worth of USD 19.5 billion and Lakshmi mittal ranked in 8th position with 19.3 billion dollars in the list of billionaires. In the previous year, Anil Ambani was in fifth position and Laksmi mittal was in a fourth position in the list. Software giant Bill Gates regained the position of world’s richest person from legendary investor Warren Buffett with a net worth of USD 40 billions, even though he lost many billions due to the economic crisis. Warren Buffett reached in second position and Mexican tycoon Carlos Slim reached in the third position in Frobe’s list. Economic crisis reduced the wealth of billionaires across the world. Anil and Mittal are also biggest losers due to this crisis.

BIOGRAPHY

Reliance Industries Chairman and MD Mukesh Ambani was born in 1951 as the son of the founder of Reliance Industries, Dhirubhai Ambani. His brother Anil Ambani is also a famous business man in India.  Mukesh Ambani gained his school education from Abaay Morischa School in Mumbai and bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from the UDCT. Then he joined in MBA course, but he did not completed that course. He joined in Reliance in 1981 and he started to expand its alliance from textiles into polyester fibers and further into petrochemicals, petroleum refining and oil and gas exploration and production. With the help of his several new world-class manufacturing facilities involving diverse technologies, Reliance’s petrochemicals manufacturing capacities raised per year. He also created the world’s largest grassroots petroleum refinery at Gujarat in India. His most popular achievement is that the creation of largest telecommunications companies, Reliance Communications formerly known as Reliance Infocom in India. Through this company, mobile phone became popular among ordinary people. However, now this company is under Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group after the split of two brothers Mukesh and Anil.  Reliance also entered in retail business under his leadership. Reliance Retail has also launched a new chain called Delight stores and now made an agreement with Nova Chemicals to make energy-efficient structures for Reliance Retail. He is also a lover of sports, and he owns Indian Premier League cricket team, Mumbai Indians for IPL twenty20 tournament. People hope that this business magnet would change India into another world through his various businesses.

AWARDS AND HONORS

This business tycoon gained many awards and honors in his life. His recent achievement is that he gained 7th position in the Forbes’ list of world billionaires for 2009 overtaking steel tycoon Lakshmi N. Mittal.In 2008, he was in a fifth position in this list, and he was top richest Indian in that year. He was selected as the businessman of the year 2007 by a public poll conducted by NDTV. He was chosen ‘Telecoms Man of the Year’ 2004 by Voice and Data magazine. In addition, ranked 13th in Asia’s Power 25 list of ‘The Most Powerful People’ in Business published by Fortune magazine.  He was also recorded as the first Trillionaire in India. He got “Chitralekha Person of the Year Award — 2007″ from Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi. He was also honored with World Communication Award for Most Influential People in Telecommunications in 2004 by Total Telecoms magazine. We hope that this richest man would gain many awards and honors in coming years.
