BMW is very popular German automobile and motorcycle manufacturing company. It is the abbreviation of Bayerische Motoren Werke AG in German and in English means Bavarian Motor Works. BMW, the synonym for world class cars and bikes was founded by Karl Friedrich Rapp, an engine manufacturer in 1916 and the company began to producing motorcycles in 1920. It’s headquarters was in Munich, Germany and has manufacturing, assembly, service and sales subsidiaries throughout the world.This company has made a long history in the manufacturing filed and now this company was one of the major automobile manufacture companies in the international market. BMW group offers three famous brands such as BMW, MINI and Rolls-Royce. The BMW product lineup termed as ‘Series’ and placed with a single digit number representing a particular model and its variants. A variety of motorcycles such as K 1200 GT, R 1200 RT, and F 800 S models are also available under the BMW brand. The Company offers 10 varieties of MINI. The Rolls-Royce brand offers three luxury cars such as Phantom, Drophead Coupe and Coupe. BMW’s car offerings also include sedans, coupes, convertibles, and sport wagons in the 3 Series, 5 Series, 6 Series, and 7 Series model groups. Other models include the M3 coupe and convertible; the X5 sport utility; and the Z4 roadster. BMW’s motorcycle division also offers a line of motorcycling apparel such as leather suits, gloves, and boots. Actually the BMW group is famous for its design, superior technology and innovation and the company’s current slogan ‘The Ultimate Driving Machine’ is enough to sum up its class.
BMW IN INDIA
BMW Group made their entry into India in 2007. Now, they have 12 BMW car dealers and they have also plans to strengthen their dealer network by entering tier II markets of Ludhiana, Bhubaneshwar, Jaipur and Coimbatore by 2009-end. They achieved 100 per cent growth in car sales in the previous year. Today, BMW cars are the top list of imported vehicles in India. BMW is becoming more common site on the roads now, especially 5 series and 3 series and financial crisis does not affected BMW’s takers for its 3 and 5 series. BMW had made total of nine different series including BMW 1 series, 3 series, 5 series, 6 series, 7 series, BMW X3,X5,Z4, MINI- One, cooperS and Convertible and Rolls Ryce Phantom.
BMW Automobiles
Series 1
The first series of BMW car was launched in 2004. It was introduced with five doors the only rear wheel drive vehicle and the 135i and 128i belong to this series.Great steering and a superbly controlled body are the key components.
Series 3
BMW 3-Series is an executive car available as a sedan, a coupe, a wagon or a hardtop convertible. Coupe and sedan models come in rear-wheel drive 328i and 335i models, and all-wheel-drive 328i xDrive and 335i xDrive editions.The new BMW 3 Series will be available in two petrol variants – 320i and 325i – and with two diesel variants – 320d and 320d Highline and priced at Rs 27 lakh, Rs 33 lakh and Rs 29.7 lakh respectively. It has standard premium sound, and an optional navigation system.
Series 5
The New 5-series is a mid-size executive car. It will be avaliable in three diesel variants 520d, 530d and 530d Highline and two petrol variants 525i and 530i. Loaded with standard and optional features, the car gives you the wheels for some great driving.. The 5-Series comes with a classy cabin, a blend of sporty themes and traditional wood-and-leather trim.
Series 6
The BMW 6 Series is a grand touring luxury sport coupe. Coupe and convertible models are more interesting luxury two-doors on the market.Currently the 6 Series is offered in one model, the 650i, and as either a four-seat coupe or a four-place convertible with a conventional, power-operated fabric top.
Series 7
The new BMW 7 series stands for inspiring luxury, thrilling driving dynamics, and overwhelming visual presence. It is the result of stylish design and the supreme art of engineering.The new BMW 7 series portfolio in India will consist of three models - 730Ld, 740Li and the 750Li. The 750Li was available from January 2009 and the 740Li and 750Li will be available from mid 2009 in the Indian market.
BMW X3
BMW X3 is the BMW’s second crossover Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) launched on 2003. It is based on the BMW 3-Series E46 automobile platform. It is the first BMW produced that has been cosmetically changed for every model year in production.
BMW X5
BMW X5 is BMW’s first SAV mid-size luxury SUV launced on 1999. It features all-wheel drive and is available with a range of gasoline inline-6s and V8 engines.
BMW X6
BMW X6 is a mid-size luxury Sports Activity Coupe released in 2008. It combines the attributes of an SUV with the stance of a coupe.
BMW Z4
BMW Z4 is a rear-wheel drive sports car launched in 2002. It offers sporty driving dynamics and plenty of safety features for a reasonable price.
BMW Motor cycles
BMW introduced the first motorcycle is R32 in 1923. In 2004, BMW launched the new K1200S Sports Bike which boasts powerful engine of 167 hp unit. Motorcycles are produced in product families each with a different letter prefix. Current families are:
F series – Models are F650GS, F800GS, F800R, F800S and F800ST.
G series – Models are G450X, G650GS, G650 Xmoto, G650 Xchallenge and G650 Xcountry.
R series – Models are R1200GS, R1200R, R1200RT and R1200S
K series – Models are K1200LT, K1300GT, K1200R Sport, K1300R and K1300S
