The Famous pop singer Madonna came into the news with another story of her life. On March 31st, the world’s famous musical superstar Madonna appeared in Malawi court for the adoption proceedings of 4-year-old girl Mercy James. However, her effort had drawn criticism, because that little girl would be best off with relatives. Mercy James is her second adopted child from the southern African nation, Malawi. Madonna first adopted David from Malawi in 2006 by violating country’s adoption laws. She took him when he was 13 months old after his father had placed him an orphanage following the death of his wife. Today (3rd April), Malawi Court rejects Madonna’s adoption request, because of a requirement that prospective parents live in the southern African nation for at least 18 months.

BIOGRAPHY

Famous American pop singer and actress, Madonna was born on August 16, 1958 as the daughter of Madonna Louise, a French Canadian descent and Silvio “Tony” P. Ciccone, design engineer . Madonna’s birth name was Madonna Louise Veronica Ciccone. She gained her education from St. Frederick’s Elementary School, St. Andrew’s Elementary School, West Middle School and Adams High School. She received a dance scholarship to the University of Michigan after graduating from high school. In 1977, Madonna moved from her native Michigan to New York with dreams of becoming a modern dancer. Joined up with a musician Dan Gilroy, she formed her first rock band, ” Breakfast Club”, in New York. She and her former boyfriend Stephen Bray, wrote and produced dance songs that brought her local attention in New York dance clubs. In 1979, she became a lead singer. Madonna signed a ’singles’ deal with Sire Records. Her first hit release was “Everybody” on April 24, 1982 and her second club hit was “Physical Attraction” in 1983. She had her third club hit with the bubbly “Holiday,” which was written by Jellybean Benitez. Madonna’s another hit albums including “Like a Virgin, “Ray of Light”, ” Music”, “American Life”, “Confessions on a Dance Floor” and “Hard Candy”. Her film career, however, is another story of the people. She acted in 22 films, most of them failed critically and commercially. Madonna’s acting career started in 1985 and a brief appearance as a club singer in the film “Vision Quest” and another movie “A Cetain sacrifice”. However, she scored an other hit with “Desperately Seeking Susan” starring alongside spunky ‘Rosanna Arquette‘. Madonna’s next effort with her husband Sean Penn, “Shanghai Surprise ” was savaged by critics. She has also acted in over a dozen movies including ‘”hose that girl”, “Bloodhounds of Broadway”, “Dick Tracy” and ‘” League of Their Own”. She has also starred as Eva Peron in “Evita”, “The Next Best thing” and “Swept Away”. Madonna has captivated millions around the world with sexy, high-energy performances and songs like “Material Girl”, “Like a Virgin” and “Papa Don’t Preach”. Madonna wrote a lot of book in her career including ‘The English Roses’, illustrated by Jeffrey Fulvimari, “Callaway”, “New York in 2003″, “Mr. Peabody’s Apples” illustrated by Loren Long, “Yakov and the Seven Thieves” illustrated by Gennady Spirin, ” Lotsa de Casha”, etc. Now, she has one of the top singer and fan favorite around the world. She is best known for exploring religious symbolism and sexual themes in her work.

PERSONAL LIFE

Madonna’s personal life is a big story of Hollywood Industry. Her first romantic relationship was with the Dan Gilroy. She had also the relationship with her collaborator Stephen Bray, artist Jean-Michel Basquiat, DJ and record producer Mark Kamins, and musician Jellybean Benitez. In 1985, she is married to actor Sean penn and divorced in 1989. Madonna then began a relationship with Warren Beatty, Tony Ward, Vanila Ice, Dennis Roadman, Carlos Leon. All these relationships are ended soon. She had also the relationship with her trainer Carlos Leon, and they had a daughter named Lourdes Leon Ciccone. In 2000, she was married to the world famous screenwriter and film maker Ritchie, and they had a son named Rocco and their married life ended on 2008.  Now she has been the relationship with a model Jesus Luz, who is nearly 30 years junior to her.

She received many awards in her career. She is regarded as “one of the greatest pop acts of all time” and the “Queen of Pop”. She won the 1986 ‘Grammy Award nomination’ for the ‘Best Female Pop performance for ‘Crazy for You’ and ‘Papa Don’t Preach’, also won the 1986 ‘People’s Choice award’,'Video Vanguard’,’ MTV Video Music Awards’ for the ‘Best Female Musical Performer’, Grammy Award nomination for the ‘best song’ written specifically for a ‘motion picture’ or ‘television’ for “Who’s That Girl?”. She has also won the ‘Pop/Rock Video Award’,'American Music Awards’ for favorite ‘female video artist’ in 1987. In 1899, won the ‘Viewers Choice Award, MTV Video Music Awards, and International Music Award’ for the “Like a Prayer”. In 2003, Madonna had also includes five “Grammy awards” and an “Oscar” for her musical career and also earned a “Golden Globe Award” for her role in the film “Evita”. “Guinness World Records” list her as the world’s most successful female recording artist of all time and the top-earning female singer in the world. On March 2, 2009, Madonna was honoured with the “Japan Gold International Artist of the Year award”at the ‘RIAJ’ Gold Disc Awards for her album “Hard Candy”.

India’s former captain Rahul Dravid is very popular for his stylish batting strokes. His strokes are so perfect, so he is considered as the “Wall” of the Indian team. Earlier his batting was very slow in ODI, but through his powerful strokes, complete practice and imaginative placing of the ball ,he turned as an integral part of the Indian team for both Tests as well as ODI’s. He is the third Indian batsman, who have scored 10000 runs in test and ODI cricket. His attitude towards cricket earned respect from all the other players and his good and innocent looks make him very popular among the girls. He is also the icon player  in the “Royal Challengers Bangalore” team in the Indian Premier Leagu.

BIOGRAPHY

India’s cool cricketer Rahul Dravid was born in Indore, Madhya Pradesh and grew up in Bangalore, Karnataka. His father is Sharad Dravid and mother is Pushpa Dravid and he has one brother named Vijay. He gained his school education from Joseph’s Boys’ High School, Bangalore and graduation from St Joseph’s College of Commerce Bangalore, Karnataka. Dravid started to playing cricket at the age of 12 in the streets of Banglore. He represent his school team at the under 15, under 17 and under 19 tournaments. His first entry into ODI match against Sri Lanka in 1996 was not good for him and his first entry into test cricket was against England and he scored 95 runs in this match. His maiden test century was against South Africa. He scored 148 and 81 runs in that match and won first man of the match award. In 1998, he played many home and away series and won huge runs in each series. He won his first double century against Zimbabwe and also he scored 70* in the second innings which helped India to victory. Dravid’s golden phase began in the test match against Australia in 2001. In this match, Dravid joined hands with VVS Laxman to produce one of the greatest victory to India. In this match dravid scored 180 runs and it is the one of the greatest performances of him. In 2002, he made his four consecutive centuries against England and West Indies. In 2003-2004 season, Dravid scored three double centuries, one each against New Zealand, Australia and Pakistan. In 2003, Dravid scored 619 runs in  four-match series against Australia at an average of 103.16 and won the man of the series award. In 2004, he led India as a captain against Pakistan and gained historic test series victory over Pakistan. He scored his best Test score of 270 in this series. Dravid was top run scorer in the 7th World Cup in 1999 scoring 461 runs. During 2003 World cup, he served his team as a batsman and wicket keeper. He was the captain during 2007 cricket world cup, but his performance was not well in that world cup. He was involved in two of the largest partnerships in ODIs, a 318-run partnership with Sourav Ganguly  and a 331-run partnership with Sachin Tendulkar which is the present world record. He also holds the record for the greatest number of innings being dismissed for a duck. Recently, he reached the Mark Waugh’s world record of 181Test catches. He need only one catch to overcome this record. He is married to Dr. Vijeta Pendharkar, a surgeon from Nagpur and they had a son named Samit. He is also involved in social activities like “Children’s Movement for Civic Awareness (CMCA)” and “UNICEF Supporter and AIDS Awareness Campaign”. He has two biographies written on his career. There are “Rahul Dravid - A Biography” written by Vedam Jaishankar and “The Nice Guy Who Finished First” written by Devendra Prabhudesai.

CAPTAINCY ACHIEVEMENTS

He was the coolest captain of Indian team. He led India to a historic Test series win against the West Indies in their home soil in 2006. During his captaincy the Indian team broke the 14 match West Indies record for most consecutive won matches in One-Day Internationals while chasing a total and he is the first captain to lead India to a Test match victory against South Africa on South African soil. He became only the third captain from India to win a Test series in England.

AWARDS AND HONORS

This extra ordinary cricketer won many awards and honors in his career. In 1999, he was selected as the “Ceat Cricketer of the 1999 World Cup”. He won ” Wisden Cricketer of the Year 2000″ in 2000 and “Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy” in 2004. In 2004, Government of India honored him by giving “Padma Shri” to him for his contribution to the cricket. He was also selected as the ” ICC Test Player of The Year” in 2004 and ” MTV Youth Icon of the Year for 2004″. In 2006, he was selected as the ” Captain of the ICC’s Test Team”. Hope that this wonderful player would win many awards and honors through his powerful strokes.
