CHANDRA BABU NAIDU
N.Chandrababu Naidu is the president of Telugu Desam Party and opposition leader in the Andhra Pradesh state assembly. He was also the former Chief minister of Andhra Pradesh and he holds the record of being the longest-serving chief minister of Andhra Pradesh from 1995 to 2004. He was the first Indian politician to “discover” the IT industry. He brings techno-fame to Hyderabad, the capital of Andhra Pradesh by creating Hi-Tech city.
BIOGRAPHY
He was born on April 20 in 1950 as the son of a farmer from the Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh. He gained his Master degree in Economics from the Sri Venkateswara University in Tirupati and also gained Ph.D in Economics. He is married to the daughter of N.T. Rama Rao, a superstar of Telugu films and founder of the TDP and had a son Lokesh. Earlier he was the member of Congress and was elected to the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly on a congress ticket. He served Tanguturi Anjaiah’s Government and holds various posts including Archives, Cinematography, Technical Education, Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development, Public Libraries and Minor Irrigation. When he failed in 1983 elections on a Congress party ticket then he resigned from the Congress and joined the Telugu Desam Party founded by his father-in-law N.T.Rama Rao. In 1989, he was elected to the State Legislature on a Telugu Desam Party ticket. In 1994, he was again elected to the Assembly with the huge majority and holds the posts such as Finance and Revenue. In 1995, for Chief Minister ship, he constructed a rebellion in the party by defecting a large number of MLAs into his side. He had to face challenges from Lakshmi Parvathi, second wife of N. T. Rama Rao for Chief Ministership. However, he became the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh in 1995. He continued to strengthen the party and in the 1996 parliamentary elections, the TDP made great victory and he became a Chief Minister for the second term. He tried his best to make Hyderabad into IT city. Microsoft decided to set up its first Research Lab outside US in Hyderabad. He used modern technologies such as videoconferencing. Using this he address all District Collectors on a regular basis or consult the Cabinet ministers on various issues like the electric power situation in various districts, the Clean and Green program, rythu (farmer) bazaars, monitoring of commodity prices, implementation of road works, public health & sanitation and law and order. Through this, he was quickly solved public’s issues without delay. He launched schemes like “Janmabhoomi”, a project encouraging people to be part of the development of the state. However, he attracted criticism for neglecting the agricultural sector, which accounts for more than 70% of the state’s population. In 2003, he survived an assassination attempt planned by a naxal outfit, Peoples War Group, now known as CPI Maoist. TDP lost power in the 2004 Assembly elections largely due to agriculture troubles in the state. TDP lost 2004 elections. Reason for this lose is Naidu mainly focused on IT by neglecting agriculture activities in that time and the alliance of the Congress with the Telangana Rashtra Samithi , Communist Party of India , Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPM), Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen and other parties. Farmers’ suicides, widespread drought, naxalite problems and neglecting rural areas in favor of urban areas are also reasons for this defeat in election.

Chandra Babu Naidu won numerous awards and honors including ” IT Indian of the Milleneum”, “Business Person of the Year”, Member of the ‘World Economic Forum’s Dream Cabinet’ and ‘South Asian’ of the Year 1999. He was chosen as one of the 50 leaders at the forefront of change’ in the year 2000 by the Business Week magazine for being an unflinching proponent of technology and for his drive to transform the State. Chandrababu Naidu was ranked among the ten most admired Indians in a national poll conducted by Week magazine. He was also chosen for being a good administrator, improving IT field, a good politicians and working for woman’s progress.
