Narendra Modi is the strongest leader of BJP and current Chief minister of Gujarat since 2001. He holds the record of being the chief minister of Gujarat in three consecutive times and also the longest serving Chief Minister in Gujarat’s history. In 2007, he served the Gujarat as chief minister for 2063 days continuously. With fresh ideas and energetic movements, he is considered as the modern-day Hitler of the country. Under his reign, Gujarat raised into progress and prosperity. Everyone praised his outstanding administration, which makes Gujarat into an economic powerhouse and controlling terrorism. He is also one of the most responsive political leaders in India. Now he is the star campaigner of BJP in the coming Lok sabha elections. Gujarat’s development was presented as a model throughout his election campaigns. He was also considered as the prime minister candidate of BJP after Advani in this election.

BIOGRAPHY

Modi was born to a middle class family in Vadnagar in Mehsana district of North Gujarat. He completed his school education in Vadnagar and gained a master graduate degree in Political Science from Gujarat University. Even in his childhood, he was interested in social services. In the days of Indo-Pak war, he helped the soldiers and also helped the people who were suffered in Narmada Tapti floods. His abilities and leadership qualities were seen in the early days of his student life when he became the student leader of Akhil Bhartiya Vidhyarthi Parishad, a student organization. He played an important role in the anti corruption movement in 1974 in Gujarat. He entered politics in 1987 by joining the Bharatiya Janata Party. Within a year, he was raised up to the level of General Secretary of the Gujarat unit of the party. In 1995 he became the National Secretary of the party with the charge of five major states. In 1995, BJP came to power in Gujarat and since then Gujarat is under the rule of BJP. In 1998, Modi was elected as the General Secretary of BJP and in 2001, he became the Chief Minister of Gujarat. 2001 onwards, he served the Gujarat as chief minister till now. In 2001, he had to face many problems as a chief minister. At that time, Gujarat faced a lot of problems due to Earthquake. In that critical situation Modi started reconstruction of the earthquake affected areas. His dynamic vision and quick decisions have put Gujarat Reconstruction Program as one of the best reconstruction programmes on the global map. He raised state economic growth by reorganizing the government’s administrative structure and commencing a massive cost-cutting exercise. He introduced various yojanas including “Panchamrut Yojana”, a five-pronged strategy for an integrated development of the state, “Sujalam Sufalam”, a scheme to create a grid of water resources in Gujarat in an innovative step towards water conservation and its appropriate utilization. “Krishi Mahotsav”, “Chiranjeevi Yojana”, “Matru Vandana”, “Beti Bachao campaign (to protect the girl child)”, “Jyotigram Yojana” and “Karmayogi Abhiyan”. In 2002, Gujarat violence was breaking out when he was the chief minister of Gujarat. In these incident, 790 Muslims and 254 Hindus were killed, 223 people were missed and 2500 were injured. Followed by this incident, Godhra Train Burning incident was also happened in which 58 Hindus Kar Sevaks were burnt alive by a Muslim mob in a train carriage. The National Human Rights Commission criticized Modi Government for not controlling continuous violations of rights. Many Sangh Parivar activists claimed that Modi was personally aware of the planning for these violations. However, Nanavati Commission rejected all claims and gave a clean chit to Modi.  After that he was resigned from his chief minister post by the objection of opposition parties. However, he was again selected as chief minister in re- election. USA denied a visa for Modi for his human and religious right violations.  Modi also takes many steps to reduce the terrorism on the state. He also came into the news by giving space to Tata’s group for producing their cheapest car “Nano”. The vision, concept and implementation of the program make Narendra Modi as the number one Chief Minister of the country.

AWARDS AND HONORS

This powerful chief minister received many awards and honors. Chitralekha, a Gujarat magazine awarded him the “Person of the Year” 2005. India Today magazine awarded him the best Chief Minister in India.  Rajeev Gandhi’s foundation has declared Gujarat to be the best-administered state in India.  In addition, Gujarat got many awards including UN Sasakawa Award for disaster reduction, CAPAM award for innovation in governance, UNESCO award, CSI award for e-governance, No.1 state in industrial investment (MOUs), No.1 among major health care services, availability and utility of infrastructure, Indiatech award in power sector under this able chief minister.
