India’s largest private sector, ” Reliance Industries Limited” is the owner of this team.  They owned this team for the amount of $111.9 million. It is the most expensive franchise team in IPL.  The all time greatest cricket player Sachin Tendulkar is the captain and icon player of this team. Pravin Kalyan Amre is the current coach and R. Balachandran is the CEO of Mumbai Indians. Bollywood actor Hrithik Roshan is the brand ambassador of the team.The team emblem is a Sudarshan Chakra with the team’s name covered in it. This team official color is blue and the jersey color’s are two-tone blue with three stripes in orange. South African legend Shaun Pollock is bowling coach and Jonty Rhodes is the fielding coach of this team.

HISTORY

“Mumbai Indians” team is one of the best team in IPL tournament. This team is owned by Mukesh Ambani’s “Reliance Industries Limited” for IPL tournament.The 2008 first IPl tournament was very bad for this team.This team lost most of their matches in this tournament.The reason for the loss was, they lost their captain Sachin Tendulkar due to hamstring injury in the start of the tournament. It was this time Mumbai team to followed Harbijan singh and under his captaincy mumbai Indians has lose their first 4 matches of the tournament. After Habajan singh’s suspension for hitting Sreesanth, the team to followed Shaun pollock till Sachin Tendulkar’s returns . Finally, Mumbai Indian finished in 5th position with 7 wins and 7 losses in this tournament. Due to these bad factors,this team earned Zahir Khan in exchange for Robbin Uttappa and Shikhar Dhawan in exchange for Ashish Nehra for the second season of IPL tournament. They also bought JP Duminy, Mohammed Ashraful, Kyle Mills, Graham Napier and Ryan McLaren for this season. But the players including Loots Bosman, Dwayne Smith, Dominic Thornely, Ashwell Prince and Manish Pandey were removed from this team for this season of IPL. Shaun Pollock is not playing for the second season of IPL. but he took the role of the team advisor in this season. The players of this team are Sachin Tendulkar, Jean-Paul Duminy, Mohammed Ashraful, Shikhar Dhawan, Saurabh Tiwary, Ajinkya Rahane, Jaydev Shah, Sanath Jayasuriya, Ryan McLaren, Dwayne Bravo, Graham Napier, Kyle Mills, Abhishek Nayyar, Luke Ronchi, Pinal Shah, Yogesh Takawale, Lasith Malinga, Dilhara Fernando, Harbhajan Singh, Dhaval Kulkarni, Rohan Raje, Zaheer Khan, Chetanya Nanda, Rahil Sheikh.The strength of this team is the powerful batting of Sachin Tendulkar and Sanath Jayasuriya and powerful bowling of  Zaheer Khan. Mumbai Indians is one of the strong team in IPL Tournament. The team has showed the best performance in the first match of Indian Premier League at Cape Town on April 18 in 2009.In this match,Mumbai Indians defeated Chennai Super kings by 19 runs.Mumbai Indians scored 165/7 in 20 overs. Their captain Sachin Tendulkar made a  59 runs from 49 balls with 7 fours and Jaysuriya made 26 runs from 20 balls with 5 fours. But Chennai Super Kings scored only 146 runs from 20 overs. Chennai Super Kings players M. Hayden’s 44 runs, Flintoff’s score of 24 runs and MS Dhoni’s 36 did not helped them to win the victory against Mumbai Indians.  Mumbai Indian team captain Sachin Tendulkar has showed a brilliant performance in this match and his score was the top score of this team. He has selected as the “Man of the Match’ Award and he has earned the first Award of the second season IPL.

Second match of Mumbai Indians against Rajasthan Royals was canceled due to heavy rain in Durban on 21st April. Each team will get one point each.

Third match of Mumbai Indians against Deccan Chargers was held on 25th April in Durban. In this match Mumbai Indians were defeated by  Deccan Chargers by 12 runs. In this match, Deccan Chargers elected to bat first and with the help of their batsmen Gibbs 63, Gilchrist 35 runs and Dwayne Smith’s 35 runs, they scored 168 for nine in 20 overs. In replay to this score, Mumbai Indians scored only 156 for seven in 20 overs. Their players JP Duminy scored  47 runs and Tendulkar gained 36 runs. But Deccan Chargers bowler Pragyan Ojha did not allow them to gain victory. He took 3 wickets in this match and declared as ‘Man of the Match’.

Mumbai Indians fourth match was played against Kolkata Knight Riders on 27 April 2009 at Port Elizabeth. Mumbai Indians defeated Kolkata Knight Riders by 92 runs.Mumbai Indians captain Sachin Tendulkar won the toss and elected to bat first and scored 187/6 at the end of 20 overs. Mumbai Indians captain Sachin Tendulkar and Sanath Jayasuriya give a good start to Mumbai Indians. Sachin tendulkar scored 68 runs off 63 balls and Sanath Jayasuriya scored 52 runs off 75 balls. But Kolkata Knight Riders players were all out for 95 runs in 15.2 overs. Mumbai Indians captain Sachin Tendulkar was declared as the Man of the Match.

Mumbai Indians lost their fifth match which was played against Kings XI punjab on 29th April 2009 at Kingsmead, Durban. Kings XI Punjab won this match by 3 runs. At first Kings XI Punjab won the toss and chose to bat first.Punjab finished their innings on 119/8 at the end of the 20 overs. In replay to this score, Mumbai Indians gained only 116 for 7 in 20 overs. Mumbai Indians lost jayasurya for 1 runs and Sachin Tendular for 4 runs. Duminy emerged as the best batsman in this match. He had scored 59 runs and took Mumbai Indians very close to victory. In last over Mumbai Indians required 12 to win and they lost Duminy. This was the turning point and they lost the match by just 3 runs. Kings XI Punjab’s player Kumara Sangakkarra was selected as the ‘ Man of the Match’ .

Mumbai Indians sixth match was  played against Kolkata Knight riders. This match was held at  Buffalo Park, East London. Mumbai Indians won the toss and decided to bat first.They finished their innings on 187 runs by losing 6 wickets in 20 overs. In reply to this score,  Kolkata made only 95 runs by all out in 15.2 overs and Mumbai Indians won the match by 9 runs The Mumbai Indian player Jean paul duminy was showed a better performance in this match. He had scored 52 runs off 37 balls and he was selected as “Man of the Match ‘ .

Mumbai Indians seventh match was played against Royal Challengers Bangalore at New Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg. In this match Royal Challengers Bangalore won the match by 9 wickets. By wining this match,Royal Challengers Bangalore gathered 8 points in 8 matches.At first Mumbai Indians won the toss and chose to bat first.They finished their innings on 149 runs by 4 wickets in 20 overs.In reply to this score,  Royal Challengers Bangalore made 150 runs by losing 1 wickets in 18.5 overs and won the match by 9 wickets. Royal Challenger’s player JH Kallis was selected as “Man of the Match”.

Mumbai Indians 8th match was played against Deccan Chargers on 6 May 2009 at SuperSport Park, Centurion.It was 32 match of second edition of the Indian premier League. Mumbai Indians beat Deccan Chargers for the second time in this IPL.Deccan Chargers won this match by 19 runs. At the starting of this match Deccan Chargers won the toss and elected to bat first and finished their innings on 146 runs by lose of 6 wickets in 20 overs.In reply to this score, Mumbai Indians made only 126 runs by losing 8 wickets in 20 overs and lose the game by 19 runs. Mumbai Indians lost Jayasurya and Sachin very quickly and were reduced to 7/2 in 2nd over.Another player P. Shah got out after scoring 29 runs in 19 balls and Duminy scored his half century helped the Mumbai Indians to take the 126 runs.

Mumbai Indians 9th match was played against Delhi Daredevils on 8th May 2009 at Buffalo Park, East London. It was 35th match of second edition of the IPL tournament. Mumbai Indians beat Delhi Daredevils for the first time in this tournament. Delhi Daredevils won this match by 7 wickets. At starting of this match, Mumbai Indians won the toss and elected to bat first and finished their innings on 116 runs by all out in 20 overs. Chasing 117 for victory, Daredevils achieved their target with seven balls to spare.They made 117 runs by losing 3 wickets in 18.5 overs and the match won by 7 wickets.

Mumbai Indians tenth match was played against Royal Challengers Banglore on 10th May at St. George’s Park Port elizebath. It was 38th match of second edition of the Indian Premier League. Mumbai Indians won this match won by 16 runs. At the starting of this match,  Mumbai Indians won the toss and elected to bat first and finished their innings on 157 runs by losing 2 wickets in their 20 overs. Chasing a challenging total of 158 ,Royal Challenges made only 141 runs by losing seven wickets in their 20 overs and .Mumbai Indians  won the game by 16 runs. Mumbai Indians players Jayasurya, Rahane and Duminy had played very well in this match. Each of the players put on a brilliant 104 run unbeaten partnership in just 72 deliveries to take Mumbai to a very competitive score.

Mumbai Indians 11th match was played against Kings XI Punjab on 12 May 2009 at SuperSport Park, Centurion. It was 42 match of second edition of the Indian Premier League. Mumbai Indians beat Kings XI Punjab for the second time in this IPL. Mumbai Indians won this match by 8 wickets. At the starting of this match, Kings XI Punjab won the toss and elected to bat first and finished their innings on 119 runs by losing 9 wickets in their 20 overs.In reply this result, Mumbai Indians made 122runs by losing 2 wickets in their 16.2 overs and won the match by 8 wickets. Mumbai Indians lost the first wicket for just 5 runs but Bravo and Sachin played well and successfully chased the small total of set by Punjab.

Mumbai Indians 12th match was played against Rajastan Royals on 14th May 2009 at at Kingsmead, Durban. Both are very strongest teams and faced for the second time in this IPL.In the first match of Mumbai Indians between Rajastan Royals was canceled due to the rain.At the starting of this match, Rajasthan Royals won the toss and elected to bat first and finished their innings on 145 runs by losing 7 wickets in 20 overs.Mumbai Indians started their innings very badly loosing 3 wickets for just 26 runs. Sachin and Abhishek Nayer batted well in the match.The team needed only four off the last over with three wickets in hand, but Munaf Patel bowled a dream over and Tendulkar’s boys lost their heads to get all out. They gained only 143 runs by all out in 19.5 overs to lose the game by 2 runs.

Mumbai Indians 13th match was played against Chennai Super Kings on 16 May 2009 at at St George’s Park, Port Elizabeth. Chennai Super Kings won this match by 7 wickets. At first Mumbai Indians won the toss and elected to bat first and end of their batting, they made 147/5 in 20 overs. Mumbai Indians sarted their innings very well and Jayasuriya played some excellent shots at the start of the innings and scored 30 runs.Duminy is another highest run scorer in this match. He scored half century and he made his 5th IPL fifty. Chasing the target of 148, Chennai Super Kings lost the first wicket in the very first over but Hayden and Dhoni played well and successfully chased the good total of set by Mumbai Indians.

Mumbai Indians defeated by Delhi Daredevils in their last league match.They score 165 for eight wickets in  20 overs.But Daredevils took 166 for six wickets in 17.3 overs.Ajinkya Rahane 56 played well in this match.Daredevils bowled well to restrict Mumbai Indians within 165 runs.Mumbai made a shaky start, losing three quick wickets Sanath Jayasuriya (0), JP Duminy (9) and Mohammad Ashraful (2) as they stuttered to 31 for 3 in the first six overs.All this helped Daredevils to achieve a four wicket victory.It is their last league match.They were already out from IPL2.
