HISTORY

New Zealand cricket team is popularly known as “Black Caps” is another strongest cricket team in the world. It is governed by the New Zealand Cricket. It holds the position of 8th in Test and 4th in ODI in ICC rank listing. New Zealand started their journey in test cricket in 1930 against England, but they registered their first test victory against West Indies in 1956. This team produced many legend players including Richard Hadlee, Martin Crowe, Chris Cairns, John Wright, Ian Smith, Danny Morrison. Stephen Fleming, Nathan Astle, Craig McMillan etc. In these players, Stephen Fleming is considered as the most successful captain of New Zealand,who led New Zealand to 28 Test victories. This cricket team made many achievements in the cricket world. They reached in the semi finals of 1975, 1979, 1992 and 1999 World Cup. They also reached in the semi final of first ICC 20-20 World Cup. Currently, New Zealand cricket team contains more promising players including Brendon McCullum, Jacob Oram, Ross Taylor, Jesse Ryder, Tim Southee etc.

NEW ZEALAND IN ICC 20-20 WORLD CUP

In the first 20-20 World cup 2007, the New Zealand team was placed in Group C along with Sri Lanka and Kenya. In their first match, they defeated Kenya by 9 wickets. In this match, Kenya scored lowest Twenty20 International total of 73 runs. New Zealand team easily overcome this small score with losing 1 wicket. In another group match, they were defeated by Sri Lanka by 7 wickets. New Zealand team is qualified for the Super 8 round due to the high run rate. In Super 8 stage, they defeated the champion India by 10 runs in a close contest and England by 5 runs. Though they were defeated by South Africa, but they were entered in semi final due to the higher net run rates. But in the semi final, they were defeated by Pakistan by 6 wickets. New Zealandan players Ross Taylor, Brendon McCullum and Vettori were performed very well throughout that tournament. Now this team is taking preparation to the second 20-20 World cup 2009. In this second 20-20 world Cup, New Zealand is in group D along with South Africa and Scottland. Daniel Vettori is the current captain and Andy Moles is the current coach of this team. In the second day of T20 World cup New Zealand played against Scotland. In this match, New Zealand won by 7 wickets. This match was reduced to 7 overs due to rain. It is the first match of Group D teams. New Zealand won the toss and they elected to field. Ian Butler was declared as man of the match for his bowling performance of 3 for 19 in two overs. Scotland scored 89 runs for 4 in the specified seven overs. Chasing the total, New Zealand attained the target in six overs with the loss of 3 wickets. Jess Ryder top scored with 31 runs off 12 balls for the Kiwis.

New Zealand defeated by South Africa in the tenth match of T20 World cup. New Zealand won the toss, but they elected to field first. South Africa put a 129 runs target to the team. But they managed to get 127 for 5 wickets. Brendon McCullum played well for the country. He took 57 runs from 54 balls. New Zealand started badly losing Guptill and Broom early. The Kiwis were reduced to 26/2. The team is already qualified to the super eight stage.

In the super eight match of T20 World cup cricket, New Zealand beat Ireland by 83 runs. Ireland won the toss and elected to field first. New Zealand took 198 runs for 5 wickets. But Ireland is all out in 16.4 overs with 115 runs. Aaron Redmond took 63 runs from 30 balls and he was elected as the man of the match. Martin Guptill (45 not out) and Scott Styris (42) also played well to achieve this huge score. It is a wonderful innings from the side of New Zealand batsmen.

New Zealand defeated by Pakistan by 6 wickets in the super eight match of T20 World cup. New Zealand won the toss and they elected to bat first. But they were all out in 18.3 overs with 99 runs. Scott Styris who took 22 runs from 29 balls tries to restrict the bowlers of Pakistan. It is the lowest total of the tournament so far. Umar Gul became the first man to take five wickets in a Twenty20 international and Pakistan thrashed New Zealand in the Super Eights.

The team is defeated by Sri Lanka by 48 runs in the T20 World cup. Sri Lanka won the toss and they elected to bat first.They made a a target of 158 for 5. Chasing this target Kiwis team managed to score 110 runs. But they were all out in 17 overs. New Zealand made a promising start to the innings. The team was up with the required run rate for the initial overs. Guptill scored 43 runs off 34 balls. The team lost last six wickets for 17 runs.They were eliminated from the tournament.

South African cricket team popularly known as “The Proteas” is one of the stronger cricket teams of the world. It is controlled by Cricket South Africa and it is a full member of the ICC with Test and One Day International status. It holds the position of 2nd in Test and 1st in ODI in ICC rank listing. In South Africa, cricket was established by British and South African team played its first test in 1889. It is the unbelievable news is that South Africa has not won any single major tournament. This team always reached in the final, but they failed in the final. South Africa were not an ICC member since 1991 and therefore, they were ineligible to compete in the tournament.They were first appeared in 1992 World Cup. In this World Cup, they reached in the semi final. But in the semi final, they were defeated by England according to Dec Worth Lewis method. They also reached in the semi finals of 1999 and 2007 World Cup. In 1998, South African cricket team won the inaugural ICC Champions Trophy by beating West Indies in the final and also won the first and most likely the only Commonwealth Games gold in cricket. This cricket team hold the record of the largest successful run chase and the second highest team total 438 in One-Day Internationals. Current squad of this team containing many powerful players including Herschelle Gibbs, Jacques Kallis, Graeme Smith, AB de Villiers, Morne Morkel, Mark Boucher etc.

SOUTH AFRICA  IN ICC 20-20 WORLD CUP

In the inaugural 20-20 World cup 2007, the South African team was placed in Group A along with Bangladesh and West Indies. They started this World Cup with victory over West Indies. They defeated West Indies by 8 wickets. They followed this victory with a seven-wicket win against Bangladesh in the other Group match and qualified for the Super 8 round. In Super 8 round, they defeated England and New Zealand and they were defeated by India. New Zealand, South Africa and India were finished on equal points on that group and India and New Zealand were advanced to the semi-finals by having higher net run rates. So South Africa is eliminated from the tournament.  But their batsmen Herschelle Gibbs and Justin Kemp were reached in the top five highest individual scores in the tournament and their bowler Morne Morkel was the third best bowler of the tournament. Though they failed to gain 20-20 World cup, 2007 but now this team is starting their preparation to win the 20-20 World cup 2009 which will be held on June 5th in England.  In this second 20-20 world Cup, South Africa is in group D along with New Zealand and Scottland. In the 5th match of T20 World cup in 2009 South Africa beat Scotland by 130 runs. Scotland won the toss and elected to field first. South Africa Scored 211 runs for 5 wickets in 20 overs. AB de Villiers was elected as man of the match. AB de Villiers took 79 runs from 34 balls. His wonderful performance helped South Africa to attain a huge total.J acques Kallis(48) also played well. Graeme Smith also made 38 runs.The Scotland team was all out in 15.4 overs with 81 runs.The bowlers also did a good job for the team. South Africa took full advantage of the weak bowling of Scotland.

South Africa defeated New Zealand by 1 run in the tenth match of the T20 World cup. New Zealand won the toss and elected to field first. South Africa scored 128 runs for 7 wickets in 20 overs. But the New Zealand team managed to score only 127 runs for 5 wickets in the 20 over. Roelof van der Merwe was elected as the man of the match. He took 2 wickets by giving 14 runs. His amazing bowling helped South Africa to achieve this one run victory.The team is already qualified for super eight stage.

In 14th match of T20 World cup, South Africa beat England by 7 wickets. England won the toss and elected to bat first. In the first innings, England team is all out in 19.5 overs with 111 runs. South Africa achieved their target 112 within 18.2 overs. Jacques Kallis was elected as the man of the match. He took 57 runs from 49 balls. Herschelle Gibbs took 30 runs for the country to lead to the victory.

South Africa beat West Indies  by 20 runs in the 17th match of T20 World cup super eight match. West Indies won the toss and they elected to field.I n the first Innings South Africa scored 183 runs for the loss of 7 wickets. Herschelle Gibbs took 55 runs from 35 balls. Jacques Kallis also took 45 runs. Chasing this huge score for victory West Indies managed to score only 163 runs for 9 wickets. Wayne Parnell ,Who took 4 wickets by giving 13 runs was elected as the man of the match. The team became the first team to record six wins in a row in Twenty20 internationals.

In the last super eight match of T20 World cup South Africa won by 12 runs against India. South Africa won the toss and elected to bat first.They scored 130 runs for 5 wickets in 20 over. In the second innings India managed to score only 118 runs for 8 wickets in 20 overs. AB de Villiers  scored 63 runs from 51 balls.He was elected as the man of the match.Graeme Smith  also made 26 runs.The team already enter in to the semi final.They have to play with Pakistan in the semi final.

South Africa defeated by Pakistan in the T20 world cup first semi final. Pakistan won the toss and elected to bat first.They took 149 for 4. But the South African team managed to score only 142 for 5. Jacques Kallis took 64 runs from 54 balls.JP Duminy  also made 44 runs from 39 balls.The team started off brilliantly with comeback-man Kallis striking boundaries fluently. But the introduction of Afridi in the seventh over brought their downfall.The team is now out from the tournament.
