HISTORY

Netherlands cricket team is a Dutch cricket team. It is controlled by the Koninklijke Nederlandse Cricket Bond(KNCB). In 1860, cricket was considered as the major sports in Netherlands. Royal Dutch Cricket Association was formed in 1883 and the Netherlands gained the associate Membership of the ICC in 1966. This Dutch team participated all ICC tournaments and won the tournament in Canada in 2001and also runners up of the years 1986 and 1990. It was also participated in 1996, 2003 and 2007 Cricket World Cups.  It won the European Championship in 1998. In 2001, Netherlands won the ICC trophy by defeating Namibia in the final and they qualified for the 2003 World Cup. But in that World Cup, they failed in the first round. In the 2005 ICC Trophy, the Netherlands finished 5th and qualified for the 2007 Cricket World Cup and gained one-day International status until the 2009 ICC World Cup Qualifier. With this status, they played their first ODI series against Sri Lanka, but they lost that series. In 2007, they won the Intercontinental Cup match against Canada. Also in 2007 World Cup, they gained a victory over Scotland, In 2008, the Netherlands participated in the 2009 ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier for the fist time. They finished in first place in Group B based on their run-rate. In the semi final, they defeated Scotland and the final was abandoned due to rain and the trophy was shared between The Netherlands and Ireland. So the Netherlands qualified for competing in the 2009 ICC World Twenty20 in England. But this team has not established itself as a test team yet. This team has produced some great players including Luuk van Troost,Ryan ten Doeschate,Bas Zuiderent,Edgar Schiferli,Daan van Bunge etc.

NETHERLANDS  IN ICC 20-20 WORLD CUP

Netherlands cricket team was not qualified for the first ICC 20-20 World Cup. Now, this cricket team is a great part of the 12 competing teams promoted by the ICC 20-20 World Cup 2009. In August 2008, The Netherlands participated in the 2009 ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier.The qualifier test was played between 2nd August and 5th August 2008 in Stormont, Belfast in Northern Ireland. Total six teams- such as Bermuda, Canada, Ireland, Kenya, The Netherlands and Scotland were participated in this match. In the semi final, they defeated Scotland and the final was abandoned due to rain and Netherlands and Ireland were qualified for the 2009 ICC World Twenty20. This second 20-20 world Cup, Netherlands team is in group B along with England and Pakistan. Jeroen Smits is the current captain and Peter Drinnen is the current coach of this team. Current squad containing many star players including Ryan ten Doeschate, Alex Kervezee, Peter Borren etc. Netherlands squad for the 20-20 World Cup 2009 is in the following,

In the inaugural match of 2009 T20 World cup Netherlands played against England.Netherlands achieved a thrilling 4 wicket victory against England in the first game of this tournament.Netherlands won the toss and elected to field first.England took 162 runs for 5 wickets in the 20 overs.Netherlands looked in the game right from the start with most of the players contributing to the teams .Tom de Grooth of Netherlands was selected as the first man of the match of T20 2009.He took 49 runs from 30 balls.Chasing the target of 163 to win, Netherlands got off to disastrous start loosing both their openers.Netherlands attain their target within the 20 overs with the loss of 6 wickets.Netherlands’ bowling indicates that they were up for this match and they restricted England to just 73 in their last ten overs.

Netherlands defeated by Pakistan in the T20 World cup by 81 runs.Pakistan won the toss and they bat first.Chasing a target of 175 runs for 5 wickets ,Netherlands were all out with 93 runs.Netherland’s batsmen could not find form because of the powerful bowling from Pakistan bowlers.With this defeat Netherlands eliminated from the tournament.
