M.K. AZHAGIRI

M. Azhagiri is an Indian Politician belonging to the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam Party.He was  elected to the 15th Lok sabha from south Tamil Nadu constituency.Now, He has gained a position in cabinet of Manmohan Singh as Minister of Chemical & Fertilizers.He is the elder son of  M. Karunanidhi.He scored a hat-trick for DMK by securing victories in three assembly by-elections in Madurai Central, Madurai West and Thirumangalam constituencies. He was also made DMK’s south zone organizing secretary.

BIOGRAPHY

Azhagiri was born in 1945 in Tamil Nadu.He is the son of Karunanidhi, a Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and mother, Mrs.Dayalu Ammal.He earned a Bachelors degree in Arts  and he is an ex bank employee. He has a brother M K Stalin,a former mayor of Chennai and currently a minister in the state cabinet.Azhagiri was married to Kandhi Azhagiri and they have three children.All of them live in Chennai.Till a few years ago Azhagiri had a comparatively low profile in Tamil Nadu politics.In 1984,he is in charge of Madurai to manage the specially launched Madurai edition of ‘Murasoli’, the party’s official organ.He has been a very successful DMK South zone organizing secretary, paving the way for victory of DPA candidates in all three by-elections in and around Madurai. Azhagiri is the first Union Cabinet Minister elected from Madurai Lok Sabha constituency.The economically and socially underprivileged people do expect a lot from him.Currently,DMK is also got four ministers of state in the government.

DMK leader A. RAJA is the new minister of Communications and Information Technology of India. He was also served India as Union Environment and Forest Minister for three years and later as IT and Communications Minister in the previous government. He represents the Nilgiris constituency of Tamil Nadu. As a minister, he said that top priority would be given to the introduction of 3G mobile service nationwide. Also offered that telephone tariff would be reduced soon.

BIOGRAPHY

Raja was born on 10th May, 1963 in Perambalur, Tamil Nadu. He is the holder of B.Sc., B.L., M.L. from Government Arts College, Musiri, Distt. Trichy, Government Law. College, Madurai and Government Law College, Trichy. He is married to M.A. Parameswari and they have one son. He is a lawyer by profession. He was the member of Lok Sabha in 1996, 1999,2004 and 2009. He served India as the Union Minister of State, Rural Development in 1999, Union Minister of State, Health and Family Welfare in 2000, Union Cabinet Minister, Environment & Forests in 2004 and Union Cabinet Minister, Communication and Information Technology in 2007. In his administration, he faced many controversies including one relating to 2G spectrum allocation. In 2008, he submitted his post-dated resignation to the DMK chief M Karunanidhi over the killings of Tamil civilians in Sri Lanka and this results mass resignation of all the DMK ministers at the Centre. Now he is the new minister of Communications and Information Technology of India. He involved in social and Tamil literature movements since student days. He contributed articles to leading Tamil and English Dailies and magazines and involved in public life during college days through Dravidar Kazhagam. He also worked as the president of “Dr. Ambedkar Thinkers Forum”, Perambalur; secretary  of “Rationalist Forum”, Perambalur and “Tamil Ilakkiya Peravai”, Perambalur and also district secretary of DMK Party, Perambalur. He is the author many books including “An Autobiography of Democracy”, “Oru Suyasarithai”, “Collection of Tamil poems”.
