MARCIA GAY HARDEN

Marica Gay Harden is a very popular actress in America. She has won the “2009 Tony Awards” for the ‘Best Actress in a Play’ for her work in ‘God of Carnage’. It was the second time that an American actress Marica has won in the Tony award. She was first won the Broadway’s Tony Award as a best actress for Tony Kushner’s “Angels in America: Millennium Approaches”in 1993. She is considered as one of the busiest actresses of Hollywood. She was won the Academy Award for the Best Supporting Actress for playing painter Lee Krasner in ‘Pollock’ in 2000 and was also nominated in the same category for ‘Mystic Rivern’ in 2003.

BIOGRAPHY

Marica was born in La Jolla, California as the daughter of navy officer Thaddeus Harold Harden and Beverly. She was graduated from “Surrattsville High School” in Clinton and graduated from the “University of Texas” with a B.A. in theater and also earned an MFA from the graduate theater program at New York University. Harden was married to Thaddaeus Scheel and they had three children, a daughter, Eulala Grace Scheel, and twins Julitta Dee Scheel and Hudson Harden Scheel. The family lives in Harlem, New York. Marica was interested in the theater when the family was living in Greece,and she had enjoyed to attended plays in Athens. In 1992, she was acted in TV miniseries “Sinatra” with the actress Ava Gardner and Philip Casnoff. Her other dramatic roles,such as ‘Crush’ in 1992, ‘The Spitfire Grill’ and ‘The First Wives Club’ in 1996, ‘Meet Joe Black’ and ‘Labor of Love’ in 1998. Although she had acted in a movie as early as 1986, and she was played a stage manager in ‘The Imagemaker’ in 1986. Harden debuted on Broadway in Tony Kushner’s Angels in America in 1993. For her film work, she won a best supporting actress academy award for “Pollock” in 2000 and was nominated in the same category for “Mystic River” in 2003. She also guest-starred as an FBI undercover agent posing as a white-supremacist in “Raw”, an episode of the popular crime drama Law & Order, which she was nominated for an “Emmy Award” for best guest actress in a drama series. In 2007, she was appeared in several movies including Sean Penn’s critically acclaimed ‘Into the Wild’ and “The Mist”, directed by Frank Darabont. It was based on the story by Stephen King. For her work in that film, she was honored with the “Saturn Award” for Best Supporting Actress of 2007 and was also received two nominations for the “Independent Spirit Award”. In 2009, she has returned to the stage and appeared in Broadway’s ‘God of Carnage’ with James Gandolfini, Hope Davis and Jeff Daniels, and received a Tony Award for best actress in a play for her work in “God of Carnage”.

She had received “Academy Award” for the Best Supporting Actress in ‘Pollock and nominated for the Best Supporting Actress in ‘Mystic River in 2003. She was also nominated for the “Chicago Film Critics Association” and “Independent Spirit Award” in Mystic River and American Gun and also nominated for “New York Film Critics Circle” and “Independent Spirit Award” in ‘Pollock’. Now, She has won the “2009 Tony Awards” for the ‘Best Actress in a Play’ for her work in ‘God of Carnage’.

The ‘Tony Award’ is one of the most important award in the entertainment industry. The Award was presented by Tony Award Productions and a joint venture of two organizations, that are ‘ American Theater Wing’ and ‘The Broadway League’. The Awards are given annually on theater professionals for their distinguished achievements. The ‘Tony Awards’ is actually short for the ‘Antoinette Perry Awards’. It is considered as one of the most prestigious programs on television. The first awards ceremony was held on April 6, 1947, at the Waldorf Astoria hotel in New York City. Since 1997, the Tony Awards ceremony has been held at Radio City Music Hall in New York City in June and broadcast live on CBS television. This years, the Tony award ceremony has held in 7th June at Radio City Music Hall in Midtown Manhattan in New york City and it was hosted by Neil Patrick Harris and it was broad casted by CBS. The 2009 Tony awards are presented by The Broadway League and the American Theater Wing. At The Broadway League, Nina Lannan is Chairman and Charlotte St. Martin is Executive Director and at the American Theater Wing, Theodore S. Chapin is Chairman and Howard Sherman is Executive Director. For Tony Award Productions, Elizabeth I. McCann is Managing Producer and Joey Parnes is Coordinating Producer. Ricky Kirshner and Glenn Weiss,White Cherry Entertainment are Executive Producers of the 2009 Tony Awards. Mr. Weiss has also served as director of the 2009 Tony Awards. The Official partners of the Tony Awards includes Visa, Hilton Hotels and IBM. The Nominations were announced on May 5, 2009 by Cynthia Nixon and Lin-Manuel Miranda. Tony nominated best musicals and best Musical revivals including ‘Billy Elliot’,'Next to Normal’, ‘Guys and Dolls’, ‘Hair’, ‘Pal Joey’, ‘Rock of Ages’, ‘Shrek the Musical’ and  ‘West Side Story’. The Tony awards include best musical, best book of a musical, best performance by a leading actor in a musical- David Alvarez, Trent Kowalik and Kiril Kulish, best direction of a musical for Stephen Daldry, best choreography for Peter Darling, best orchestrations for Martin Koch, best scenic Design of a musical for Ian MacNeil, best lighting design of a musical for Rick Fisher and best sound design of a musical for Paul Arditti.
