MAHESH BHUPATHI
Now Indians are anxiously waiting for the quarter final of the men’s doubles in Wimbledon Championship, because their favorite tennis player Mahesh Bhupathi and his Bahamian partner Mark Knowles were entered in the quarter final of the Wimbledon men’s doubles on Monday. This pair defeated India’s Prakash Amritraj and Pakistan’s Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi with the score 6-4, 5-7, 7-6 (3), 6-0 in the pre quarterfinal of the men’s doubles in Wimbledon. Fourth seeded Bhupathi and Knowles took the first set breaking their unseeded opponents twice. However, Prakash and Qureshi came back strongly by breaking Knowles serve in the 12th game and gained the second set. The third set goes to a tie-break and Bhupathi and Knowles won that set. In the fourth set, Bhupathi and Knowles were in full control and gained the set with 6-0 margin and also won the match in three hours. Mahesh Bhupathi is considered as another legend in the field of tennis with Leander Paes. In addition, he is one of the best double tennis players in the world who had gained 11 grand slam titles and also the first Indian to win a Grand Slam tournament in mixed doubles.
BIOGRAPHY
Famous tennis player Mahesh Bhupathi was born on 7th June, 1974 in Chennai. He loved to play tennis in his childhood. His professional tennis carrier was started in 1995 and his tennis carrier spread for more than a decade, and he had delivered some amazing performances in the tennis court. He paired up with the tennis legend Leander Paes and this combination gave wonders for the Indian tennis. This pair won six ATP Doubles titles in 1997. Moreover, this pair won three doubles titles including French Open and Wimbledon in 1999, and they became the first Indian team to enter the finals of all the four Grand Slams since 1952. They became the World No. 1 doubles team on that year.They also won four doubles titles in 2001and also played in Davis cup and 2004 Athens Olympics where they were reached in the semi final. Due to some reasons, Bhupathi-Paes pair was separated in 2006 and declared that they would never play together. Even so, these players were reunited in 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. In 2002, Bhupathi paired with Belarus tennis player Max Mirnyi and this pair won US Open Doubles title in 2002 and also reached in the finals of Wimbledon Doubles in 2003. In addition, he was the first Indian to win a Grand Slam title by winning the French Open mixed doubles title in 1997. He had won the US Open mixed doubles in 1999 with Ai Sugiyama and also made a mark in the Indian Tennis history by winning Australian Open mixed doubles in 2006 with Martina Hingis. In addition, the Indian mixed pair Bhupathi and Sania won the mixed double’s title at the Australian Open in 2009. His major victory in the mixed doubles had won him the title the ‘perfect partner’ of mixed doubles. In mixed doubles, he had paired with famous tennis players such as Ai Sugiyama, Elena Likhovtseva, Lisa Raymond , Rika Hiraki, Martina Navratilova, Martina Hingis, Mary Pierce, Sania Mirza etc. He is married to a super model Svetha Jaishankar. He is also involved in developing tennis facilities in India along with his company Globosport. He also found time for giving important lessons and methods for the upcoming players. He also developed and managed the career of many Indian sportsmen including the present tennis star Sania Mirza. Indian government honored him by giving ‘Padma Shri Award’ in 2001.

In the quarter final, they were defeated by South African Wesley Moodie and Dick Norman of Belgium with the score 6-7(9), 6-4, 6-7 (7), 7-5, 4-6.
Now, Indian tennis player Mahesh Bhupathi and his Bahamian partner Mark Knowles were entered in the semi final of U.S. Open 2009 men’s doubles championship. They were defeated Croatian Ivan Ljubicic and Frenchman Michael Llodra in the men’s doubles quarter final of U.S. Open 2009 with the score 6-4, 4-6, 7-6. In addition, Mahesh Bhupathi and his American partner Liezel Huber were also entered in the semi-finals of U.S. Open 2009 mixed doubles championship. In the quarter final, they were defeated Bethanie Mattek of the US and Serbian Nenad Zimonjic with the score 6-4, 6-3.
