Now the king of Bollywood, Shah Rukh Khan will be known as Dr.Shah Rukh Khan, because a leading British University named “Bedfordshire” will be given an honorary Doctorate in Arts and Culture to this Bollwood actor on Friday. He has been chosen by NGO Routes to Roots, is a non-profit charitable organization and attempt to bring people and cultures together across the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (Saarc) countries in general and India and Pakistan in particular. Actress Juhi Chawla and filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt are supporters of this organization. Shah Rukh Khan had done immense work for the backward and helpless people and has always come forward for charities in case of natural disasters. That is why he had chosen for this doctorate. So he will find himself in the elite list of Indian heroes and heroines including Amitabh Bacchan, Shilpa Shetty, Akshay Kumar, Shabana Azmi, Dilip Kumar etc who had been conferred with the honorary doctorate in the past. Sharukh Khan is very famous as Bollywood actor, producer and television host. He is the first foreign actor who received the Malaysian title of Datuk equivalent to a British Knighthood. In addition, he had won the national award and lots of film fare awards for his best performance in films.

BIOGRAPHY

Sharukh Khan was born on 2nd November, 1965 in New Delhi, India as the son of an Indian freedom fighter Taj Mohammed Khan and Lateef Fatima. He gained his school education from “St. Columba’s School” where he was famous in sports, drama, and academics, and he won the ‘Sword of Honor’, an annual award given to the student who best represents the spirit of the school. Furthermore, he gained his graduation in Economics (honors) from “Hansraj College” .Though he continued a Masters Degree in  ‘Mass Communications’ at “Jamia Millia Islamia“, but he dropped out to make his career in Bollywood.  After the death of his parents, he moved to Mumbai in 1991, and he married Hindu girl Gauri Chibber and they have two children Aryan Khan and Suhana. He is the only actor that had no family backgrounds related to film industry. It is his effort and hard work that made him number one in the film industry. He appeared into the television serials first at early 90s named “Circus” and “Fauji”. He started his film career with the box office hit film “Deewana” in 1991, and he won “Filmfare Best Male Debut Award” for the performance of this film. Since then, he had been part of numerous commercially successful films and had earned to critical applaud for many of his performances. In 1993, he won to applaud  for his performances in villainous roles in the films like “Darr” and “Baazigar”. His notable films are “Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge”, “Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, “Karan Arjun”, “Pardes”, “Chak De India” “Om Shanti Om”, “Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi”, “Billu”, “Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham”, “Kal Ho Naa Ho “, “Veer-Zaara”, “Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna”. His latest film is “My Name Is Khan” which will be released on November 2009. He is also a producer of the films and created a production company called “Dreamz Unlimited” with Juhi Chawla and director Aziz Mirza in 1999. The films like “Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani”and “Asoka” in which he starred and produced were box office failures. However, the film titled “Chalte Chalte” became a box office hit. In 2004, he created another production company titled “Red Chillies Entertainment”and the film “Main Hoon Na” which was produced in this company was another hit film. This company also produced the films like “Om Shanti Om” and “Billu”.  This company also had a visual effects studio known as “Red Chillies VFX” which has also ventured into television shows like, ‘The First Ladies’, ‘Ghar Ki Baat Hai’, and ‘Knights and Angels’. In addition, this company became the owner of the Kolkata Knight Riders IPL cricket team. Shahrukh also appeared in the popular game showa “Kaun Banega Crorepati”, the Indian version of ‘Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?’ and “Kya Aap Paanchvi Pass Se Tez Hain?”, the Indian version of ‘Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?’. Shahrukh Khan is really a king of Bollywood with his performance.

NANDAN M NILEKANI

Co-chairman of ‘Infosys Technologies Ltd’, Nandan M. Nilekani was ended his 28-year service in the company yesterday. He had resigned from this company, because now he had been appointed as the Chairman of the new “Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI)” by Indian Government.  Nilekani is one of the founders of Infosys and had served as a director on the company’s board. He was also served as Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director , President and Chief Operating Officer of this software giant Infosys. He will join his new job next week in New Delhi.

BIOGRAPHY

Nilekani was born on 2nd June, 1955 in Bangalore, Karnataka, India as the son of Durga and Mohan Rao Nilekani. His father worked as a manager in ‘Minerva Mills’ and his father’s ideology influenced Nandan during his early years. His mother is a quiet liberal woman who brought stability to the family and a surprisingly modern viewpoint. He gained his school education from “Bishop Cotton Boys School”, Bangalore and from “St Joseph School”, Dharwad. After that, he attended the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay where he graduated with a B.Tech in Electrical Engineering. After the B.Tech in 1978, he had joined Mumbai-based ‘Patni Computer Systems’ where he was interviewed by N.R. Narayana Murthy. In 1981, due to the dis-agreement with one of the Patni brothers, Narayana Murthy and his entire division including Nilekani were walked out from ‘Patni Computer Systems’ and they started their own company named ‘Infosys’. Nilekani became the Chief Executive Officer of Infosys in March 2002 and also served as CEO and MD of the company from March 2002 to April 2007. After that, he served as the Co-chairman of the company till 9th July 2009, and now he was appointed as the chairperson of the ‘Unique Identification Authority of India’, in the rank of a cabinet minister by Indian prime minister Dr. Manmohan Singh. He is also the member of other organizations. He was co-founded ‘India’s National Association of Software and Service Companies’ (NASSCOM) as well as the Bangalore Chapter of The IndUS Entrepreneurs (TiE). He is the member of the ‘National Knowledge Commission’, ‘National Advisory Group on e-Governance’, subcommittee of the Securities and Exchange Board of India, Reserve Bank of India’s Advisory Group on corporate governance, Review committee of the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission, Board of Governors of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay and serves as the Co-chairman of the IIT Bombay. Also he is the Vice Chairman of The Conference Board, Inc., an international research and business membership organization. He is on the Board of Directors of the Peterson Institute for International Economics and is a member of the Board of Governors of the Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations (ICRIER). Furthermore, he is the author of a book titled “Imagining India” in which he discusses topics such as the future of India, its recent history, the ideas and attitudes that evolved with the times and contributed to the country’s progress, India’s early socialist policies, its young population, Information Technology, caste politics, labour reform, infrastructure, higher education, and the English language in India.

AWARDS AND HONORS

Nilekani is the winner of several awards. ‘Forbes Asia magazine’ selected him as the “Businessman of the Year” in 2006. He and  Infosy’s founder N. R. Narayana Murthy, received Fortune magazine’s ‘Asia’s Businessmen of the Year 2003’ award. He was named among the ‘World’s most respected business leaders’ in 2002 and 2003, according to a global survey by Financial Times and PricewaterhouseCoopers. He was also awarded the ‘Corporate Citizen of the Year’ award at the Asia Business Leader Awards (2004) organized by CNBC. In 2005, Nandan was awarded the prestigious ‘Joseph Schumpeter prize’ for innovative services in economy, economic sciences and politics. Government of India honored him by giving ‘Padma Bhushan’ in 2006.
