The father of Indian cinema, Dadasaheb Phalk is still remembered in the film industry, because a Marathi film “Harishchandrachi Factory” about how Phalke made his first film has been nominated as India’s official entry for the ‘Best Foreign Language film’ at the Oscar Awards next year. The director and producer of this film are Paresh Mokashi and it is the second Marathi film after the “Shwas”to acquire this honor in 2004. “Harishchandrachi Factory” was competed with 15 films including “New York” and “Delhi 6″ for this Oscar nomination. In addition, this film has already won several international awards and honors. Hope that this will be released in India shortly.

ABOUT MOVIE

“Harishchandrachi Factory” tells the story of how the father of Indian cinema, Dadasaheb Phalke made the first feature film “Raja Harishchandra” in India in 1913. The film is totally based on facts, and it captures the first two years of Phalke’s cinematic career. This two hour long film depicts the struggles of Dadasaheb Phalke to make Raja Harishchandra. In this film, Nandu Mahadev is appearing in the role of Phalke and Vibhavari Deshpande is appearing in the role of his wife. Mohit Gokhle, Atharva Karve, Dilip Joglekar, Ketan Karande, Dhiresh Joshi, Sandip Pathak are the other actors of this film. This film starts with a fight between Phalke and his business partner. As a result, Phalke gave up his printing business and turned into a theater for screening a silent film. For this purpose, he took a journey to London to learn the technology. At last,with the support of his family, he made his own silent motion picture “Raja Harishchandra”. This picture becomes a super hit and thus gives the birth of Indian cinema. “Harishchandrachi Factory” is the first film about Dadasaheb Phalke and it is really homage to that great man who brought cinema to India. It is the debut movie of Paresh Mokashi and he got many best director awards through this film.

AWARDS AND HONORS

The movie “Harishchandrachi Factory” got many awards and honors. This movie got 46th Maharashtra State Film Awards for ‘Best Film’, ‘Best Director’ and ‘Best Art Direction’. In addition, this film is shown at ‘Osian’s Cinefan Festival’ of Asian and Arab Cinema, ‘Pune International Film Festival’, where it won the ‘Best Director Award’. Now, this film nominated as India’s official entry for the ‘Best Foreign Language film’ at the Oscar Awards next year.

Bollywood’s famous actress and former Miss World Priyanka Chopra is now looking for Guinness record by playing 12 different characters through her upcoming bollywood movie “What’s your Rashee?” directed by Ashutosh Gowariker. In this movie, she is acting as twelve different characters representing the twelve zodiac signs and each character will have a habit related to the zodiac sign. “What’s your Rashee?” is the first romantic comedy film of Gowariker who created the realistic films like “Lagaan”, “Swades” and “Jodhaa Akbar”. This romantic comedy film is based on a Gujarati novel “Kimball Ravenswood” written by the famous Gujarati writer Madhu Rye. Harman Baweja and Priyanka Chopra is appearing in lead roles in this film. This film is also featured on ‘Toronto International Film Festival’ and hope that this film will be hit on the box office on 25th September, 2009.

ABOUT MOVIE

The story of the movie “What’s your Rashee?” is about a young Gujarati man who is in search of his dream girl. Yogesh Patel (Harman Baweja) is a MBA student at the University of Chicago. He is imagined inheriting his maternal grandfather’s wealth once he gets married. He is forced to get married by his family in order to pay back his brother’s huge debt. He then decides to see 12 girls one from each Rashee in 10 days and decide the one he likes the most.  Priyanka Chopra is appearing in the roles of 12 girls, and she did a fantastic performance in every role. She looks stunning in all the avatars of this movie. After the hat trick box office hit films of her like “Fashion”, “Dostana” and “Kaminey”, hope that she really make  waves in the Bollywood through the performance of this film. Harman Baweja also did wonderful performance in this film. Priyanka Chopra and Harman Baweja promoted this film on the TV show ‘Sa Re Ga Ma Pa L’il Champs. This film is also taken to the social networking website ‘Facebook’ for the promotion of this film. Hope that this film will be hit on the box office in coming days.

MUSIC

The music of this movie was composed by the young composer Sohail Sen, the son of music composer Sameer Sen for the lyrics of Javed Akhtar. The film has 13 songs, each representing a zodiac sign and the last one is a mix of all of them. The director Ashutosh Gowarikar and his sister Aslesha is also singers of this film.
