11TH MUMBAI FILM FESTIVAL
Today onwards, India’s film capital Mumbai became the attracting center of all movie lovers around the world. 11th edition of Mumbai Film festival was started on today in Mumbai and it will end on 5th November 2009. Mumbai Academy of Moving Image (MAMI) is the organizer of this glamorous film festival and more than 200 films from 56 countries will be screened in this edition. American filmmaker Steven Soderbergh’s movie “The Informant” is the debut movie and Greek director Theo Angelopoulus’s movie “The Dust of Time” will be the last movie of this festival. The ‘11th Mumbai Film Festival’ will honour two extremely talented film-makers from India and abroad. Indian actor-producer Shashi Kapoor will be honored by ‘Indian Lifetime Achievement Award’ and legendary Greek filmmaker Theo Angelopoulos will be honored by ‘International Lifetime Achievement Award’ in this edition of film festival. Many famous film makers and Bollywood stars are expected to give a touch of glamour to this beautiful event. This year, MFF give whopping cash awards. It will give 150,000 US dollars for best debutant film director and Golden Gateway India trophy for the best film and the Silver Gateway India and cash prize of USD 50 000 for the Jury Grand Prize. It also introducing a USD 20000 Audience Choice Award. Sri Lankan director Vimukthi Jayasundara, American screenwriter and director Paul Schrader,Iranian New Wave filmmaker Jafar Panahi, Indian film director Shaji Karun, Philippines film director Brillante Mendoza and Irene Bignardi from Italy are the jury members of this festival. So get ready for watching this amazing film festival.
MUMBAI FILM FESTIVAL
‘Mumbai film festival’ is the festival of documentary, short and animation films. It was started on 1990 and held in every year in Mumbai. Earluer, it was organized by the ‘Film Division’ of Ministry of Information and Broadcasting of Government of India. But this year it is organized by Mumbai Academy of the Moving Image (MAMI) with the support of Reliance Big Entertainment, a division of Reliance ADA Group. Mumbai Film Festival programme is divided into five sections: International Competition for the First Feature Films of Directors, World Cinema, Indian Showcase, Mumbai Dimensions and Retrospectives. Now this film festival comes to the level of international and hope that this festival would compare with Cannes and Berlin film festivals in the future.
