NIKHIL KUMAR
The former police commissioner of Delhi, Nikhil Kumar has been appointed as the New Governor of Nagaland on Sunday. He will be taking charge from the Governor of Manipur, Gurbachan Jagat. The Governor of Manipur has been assumed to be the additional charge as the Governor of Nagaland. He was a member of the 14th Lok Sabha of India. He served as the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Information Technology. He is the former Chief of the elite National Security Guards and a former Commissioner of Police.
BIOGRAPHY
Nikhil Kumar was born on 15th July, 1941 in Hajipur District in Vaishali, Bihar. His father’s name was Shri Satyendra Narayan Sinha and his mother’s name was Smt. Kishori Sinha. His wife Shyama Singh also represented Aurangabad in the Lok Sabha. His grandfather Dr. Anugrah Narayan Sinha, known as “Bihar Vibhuti” was the first Deputy Chief Minister cum Finance Minister of that state. His brother in Law is Rajya Sabha MP N K Singh, who has been among country’s prominent bureaucrats and served as India’s Revenue Secretary and also Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister. He did his early schooling at St. Xavier’s School, Patna. He earned a M.A.Modern History from Allahabad University. He entered the civil service in 1963 and was an I.P.S. Officer assigned to the Union Territory of Delhi. His passion for social welfare is reflected in his active participation in social and cultural activities. He also leads the Gandhi Ashram Trust in Hajipur as its President. He is well versed in the matters related to internal security, literature, history, politics, sports, films and rural development.
POLITICAL CAREER
He began his political career as the commissioner of police , Delhi. He served in this post from 1995 to 1997. He is presently associated with the Mazdoor Kisan Samanvaya Samiti since 2003. He held many assignments and positions of national importance. From 1997 to 1999 he served as the Special secretary, Internal security, Ministry of Home Affairs. From 1999 t0 2001 he held the positions of National Security Guard and Director General.From 2001 to 2003 he is the member of National Security Advisory Board, Govt. of India. In 2004 he is elected to the 14th Lok Sabha. In the same year, he also became the Member of - committee on External Affairs, the Joint Committee on Salaries and Allowances of Members of Parliament, Ministry of home Affairs and the Consultative Committee, and joint Parliamentary Committee on Security in Parliament House Complex.
