Bollywood’s Big B, Amitabh Bachchan was celebrated his 67th birthday on yesterday. There is no need to introduce Amitabh in India or in abroad. He is one of the most famous and demanded actors in the film industry. He also showed his talent as a politician, entrepreneur, game show host, a singer and a dubbing artist. His greatest asset is his personality and his voice other than his looks. No one can match his charisma and popularity even at this age of 67. He is still boss in the film industry.

BIOGRAPHY

Amitabh Bachchan was born on 11th October 11, 1942 in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh as the son of famous Hindi poet Dr. Harivansh Rai Bachchan and Teji Bachchan. Initially his name was ‘Inquilab’, later he renamed as ‘Amitabh’. He gained his school education from ‘Jnana Prabodhini’ and ‘Boys’ High School and graduation from Nainital’s ‘Sherwood College’ and ‘Kirori Mal College of the University’ of Delhi. After that, he moved into Calcutta where he worked as a stage actor, radio announcer and a freight broker in Bird & Co, a shipping firm. But his interest in movies made him come to Bombay in 1968. In 1969, he started his acting career with the film “Saat Hindustani”, which won him the ‘National Film Award’ for Best Newcomer. In 1971, he made a huge impact with his performance as a hopeless doctor in Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s movie “Anand” with Rajesh Khanna. Through the performance of this film, he won the ‘Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award’. His identity as the ‘angry young man’ use in 1973 when he starred in movies like “Zanjeer”, “Abhimaan” and “Namak Haraam”. In 1975, he starred in a variety of film generations including comedy movie “Chupke Chupke”, crime drama movie “Faraar”, romantic movie “Mili”, “Deewar” and “Sholay”. In this “Deewar” and “Sholay” made a lasting impact on Bollywood and these film were super hit in that days. After the success of films such as Sholay,he doesn’t need to look back, all the movies were making a huge profit and made him more demand. His other famous film are “Amar Akbar Anthony”, “Trishul”, “Don”, “Kabhi Kabhie, “Shahenshah,”, “Agneepath”, “Black”, “Eklavya”, Bhoothnath” etc. He is also a playback singer and he first use his singing voice for the film “Mr. Natwarlal” in which he was nominated for both the Filmfare Best Actor Award and the Filmfare Best Male Playback Awards. In 1984, with the support of his family friend Rajiv Gandhi, he entered in politics and he won the Allahabad’s Lok Sabha seat with a high margin. In 1992, he started Amitabh Bacchan Corporation(ABC) Ltd to produce and distribute movies, music etc. Then after 25 years came his bad luck and he was debt with lots of money. Then he came a TV reality show name “Kaun Banega Crorepati” which boosted up his career.He was also appeared in other language films and international films. Injuries and accidents were stopped his film career in many times, but still, he continued his journey through the latest films including “Aladin” and “Rann”. He is married to actress Jaya Bhaduri and they have two children, Shweta Nanda and Abhishek Bachchan. Abhishek is also an actor and is married to actress Aishwarya Rai.

AWARDS AND HONORS

Bollywood’s evergreen actor Amitabh Bachchan had gained countless awards and honors in his career. He gained National Film Awards for ‘Best Newcomer for the film “Saat Hindustani”, ‘Best Actor’ for “Agneepath”, ‘Best Actor’ for “Black”. He is the winner of twelve Filmfare Awards. In addition, he holds the record for most number of ‘Best Actor’ nominations at the ‘Filmfare Awards’. Other awards include ‘International Indian Film Academy Awards’, ‘Bollywood Movie Awards’, ‘Zee Cine Awards’, ‘Star Screen Awards’, ‘Stardust Awards’, ‘Saraswati Award’, ‘Apsara Awards’, ‘Rediff Movie Award’, ‘Sansui Viewers Choice Awards’, ‘Icon of the Millennium” award’, Lifetime Achievement Awards’, ‘Television Awards’ etc. Indian government honored him by giving ‘Padma Shri’ and ‘Padma Bhushan’ awards. He also got ‘Honorary Doctorate’ by the Jhansi University and ‘Alma Mater Delhi University’. He is also the recieptant of international honours and recognitions.

The leading cricket veteran journalist Natarajan Balasubramaniam,who popularly known as Rajan Bala died in Bangalore suffering a cardiac arrest. He was 63.He had suffered a stroke and underwent dialysis for some time. He also suffered a heart attack and was hurried to the hospital than a fortnight ago. He never gained consciousness and passed away on Friday morning. He had died in a hospital in the Garden City. He had penned half a dozen books on his passion.

BIOGRAPHY

Rajan Bala  was one of the finest and many famous cricket writers in the country. He was joined the journalist profession in the mid of 1960’s.  He had worked for several news papers including ‘The Statesman’, ‘The Hindu’, ‘Deccan Herald’, ‘Indian Express’, ‘Afternoon Despatch and Courier’ and ‘The Asian Age’. He was also the Indian correspondent of the Wisden Cricketer and Wisden Almanac for many years. In the last few years he was a columnist for the ‘Bangalore Mirror’ and ‘Express Buzz’. His latest book on cricket “Time Well Spent” was to have been originally launched in Bangalore and would now be released in Mumbai later. His last published book was “The Covers Are Off - A Socio-Historical Study of Indian Cricket: 1932-2003″. He was an icon for the younger generation of writers of the game in the 1970s who followed his dispatches from various parts of the cricket world with great interest. He was the former Sports Editor of Deccan Herald and served in a similar position in the Statesman and several other publications across the country.He was a cricket writer for over four decades and also authored half a dozen books on cricket, including the biographies of BS Chandrasekhar and Sachin Tendulkar Though he wrote primarily on cricket, Rajan had an in depth knowledge of Indian football, having grown up in Kolkata, and tennis. He was also a good club level cricketer who used to bat higher up to the order and bowl off spin. One of the famous books of him is ‘Kiwis and Kangaroos’ which describes an account of New Zealand’s 1969 tour of India. He also authored several books on cricket ‘Glances at Perfection’, ‘The Covers are Off biographies’ of several leading Indian cricketers. He completed his higher education in London. He was also a reader not only on cricket but on various other subjects too. He had a great knowledge about the game.
