Bollywood’s beautiful actress Aishwarya Rai celebrated her 36th birthday on Sunday. Aishwarya is always considered as one of the most beautiful ladies in this world. On her birthday, she has been selected as the first goodwill ambassador for ‘Smile Train’ a charity that works worldwide for children with cleft lip.

Nowadays, the name ‘Aishwarya Rai Bachchan‘ is a synonymous with beauty and success. This green-blue-eyed beautiful actress was born on 1st November 1973 in the city of Mangalore, Karnataka as the daughter of Krishnaraj Rai and Vrinda Rai. She has only one brother merchant navy engineer Aditya Rai. Aishwarya gave up her architecture education to concentrate on modeling. She appeared in many advertisements for many famous firms including ‘garden sari’ and the ‘Pepsi ad’. In the 1994 Miss India contest, she was crowned as Miss India runner-up. On the same year, she won the ‘Miss World’ title and the ‘Miss Photogenic award’. After that, she moved from a professional model to professional actress of India. Her acting career started with Mani Ratnam’s Tamil biopic film “Iruvar” in 1997, which was a critical success and won many awards. “Jeans” was another commercial success Tamil movie of her .Her first Bollywood film was Aur “Pyaar Ho Gaya” which was not hit on box office. She gained Bollywood’s attention through the movie “Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam” directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and she won the ‘Filmware Best Actress Award’ for the performance of this movie. Her another hit movie was “Devdas” which won numerous awards including 10 Filmfare Awards and Aishwarya gained her second ‘Filmfare Best Actress Award’ for her performance. Her other notable movies are “Dhoom 2″, “Guru”,”Jodhaa Akbar”, “Tall”, “Mohabbatein”, “Hamara Dil Aapke Paas Hai”, “Sarkar Raj”, etc. She is also the first Indian to start in Hollywood top class movies like “Pink panther”, “Bride and Prejudice”, “mistress of spices” and many more. She attracted the hearts not only the Indian people, but the whole world through her beauty and performance. She is endorsing to many brands and the owners claim that a hike has been produced after she has endorsed. Aishwarya represented India for many events and has made India to reach in many heights. She is the first Indian actress to become the jury member at the Cannes Film Festival. She is married to the actor Abhishek Bachchan, the son of Bollywood’s Big B Amitab Bachchan. In addition, she is the winner of ‘International Indian Film Academy Awards’, ‘Star Screen Awards’, ‘Zee Cine Awards’, ‘Stardust Star of the Year Award’, ‘Indian Youth Icon Awards: Global Face of the Year’,'Femina Miss India awards’, ‘Rajiv Gandhi Award for Excellence in Field of Entertainment in 2002′, ‘GR8! Women Award ‘etc. Indian Government honored her by giving ‘Padma Shri Award’ in 2009. Her life-like statue was installed in London’s Madame Tussauds Wax museum and she is the first Indian actor to be a member of the jury at the Cannes Film Festival. She was in the list Time Magazine’s “100 Most Influential People in the World” in 2004 and she was featured in the 2004 edition of the Guinness Book of World Records.

DAVID SHEPHERD

Today, the cricket world gives tribute to their most respected umpire David Shepherd. He passed away on 29th October at the age of 68 after the long battle with cancer. David Shepherd is considered as one of the best-known umpires of the cricket world, and he was also a ‘Gloucestershire‘ county cricket club player.  He stood in 172 ODIs, three consecutive World Cup finals, and 92 Test matches in his umpire career.

BIOGRAPHY

David Robert Shepherd was born on 27th December, in Bideford, Devon, England. Shepherd started his cricket career by playing for England cricket club ‘Gloucestershire’ and earned a century in his first game. He ended his first-class career scoring more than 10000 runs with a top-score of 153. In 1981, he started his second career in cricket as an umpire. Within a short time, he became famous, and he was selected in umpiring panel for the ‘1983 World Cup’. His first test appearance as an umpire in ‘1985 Ashes series’ at Old Trafford.  After that, he became part of the international cricket. His chubby face and fatty figure immediately recognisable by players and viewers alike. He was a fan favorite in the cricket world. He was best known to cricket fans around the world for his superstitious habit of standing on one leg when the score reached ‘Nelson’, the unlucky number of 111 or multiples such as 222. His hand shake was also famous while signaling fours. He was part of the ICC’s first panel of neutral umpires, and he retired from umpiring in 2005.  He was given a guard of honor by the New Zealand and Australian teams during the series in 2005 and was given ‘MBE’ for his services to the cricket in 1987. He is married to his long time partner Jenny.
