North American R&B singer Rihanna was born on 20th February, 1988 in Caribbean island of Barbados as the daughter of Ronald Fenty and Monica Fenty. In her childhood, she showed interest in music and formed a music group with two of her friends in school days. At that time, she won a beauty contest and talent contest. Her life changed when one of her friends introduced her to the music producer Evan Rogers, whose home base is in New York. He surprised to see her music talent and made demos of her twelve tracks and sent the demos to various recording companies including ‘Def Jam Recordings’. In 2005, she signed in ‘Def Jam’, and she released her debut single, “Pon de Replay”. This was global hit and it reached in number two on the Billboard Hot 100. Her debut album “Music of the Sun” was released in August 2005, which was also super hit. Her other super hit album is “A Girl Like Me”, “Good Girl Gone Bad” and the recent album ” Rated R”. Her album “Good Girl Gone Bad” includes five top ten hits including the hit singles ‘Umbrella’, ‘Take a Bow’, ‘Disturbia’ and ‘Don’t Stop the Music’. This album was nominated for nine Grammy Awards and won ‘Best Rap/Sung Collaboration’ award for the single ‘Umbrella’. Rihanna is inspired by the great artists like Madonna, Alicia Keys, Beyonce Knowles and Mariah Carey. Her music contains strong influences of Caribbean music. Her appearance has also been identified as a sex symbol, and she included in many hot lists. In addition, she made many endorsement deals with famous companies like Nike, Clinique and appeared in many advertisements. She also involved in charity works. She created ‘Believe Foundation’ to help terminally ill children. To collect the money for poor people, she performed in many stage shows. In 2008, it was rumored that Rihanna was dating singer Chris Brown, but in February 2009, she found herself the victim of domestic violence at the hands of her boyfriend Chris Brown.
