MOHINDER AMARNATH
Famous former cricketer Mohinder Amaranth followed his father’s footsteps in the case of achieving awards. Monday, Mohinder Amaranth was honored with the ‘C K Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award’ for the year 2008-09 by the BCCI. His father Lala Amarnath was the first recipient of this award, which was established in 1994. Amarnath will receive this award, which includes a trophy and a cheque for Rs 15 lakhs at the BCCI awards ceremony. Mohinder Amaranth was an all round cricketer in India, and he is the man behind India’s first ever World cup title.
BIOGRAPHY
Mohinder Amaranth Bhardwaj was born on 24th September, 1950 in Patiala, India as the son of India`s first test cricket captain Lala Amarnath. Mohinder Amaranth, commonly known as “Jimmy” belongs to a cricket family, because his brothers Surinder Amarnath and Rajinder Amarnath were cricket players of India. The right-hand batsman and right-arm medium pace bowler, Mohinder started his cricket career against Australia in 1969, and he made his first test century at Perth. He showed wonderful batting against pace bowling, and he helped India to many victories.Mohinder is known as the ‘come back man’ of Indian cricket, because he was dropped from Indian team in many occasions and returned to the team with wonderful performances. He also showed his talent in bowling. He is best known for his wonderful performance in the ‘1983 Cricket World Cup’. He helped India to win their first ever world cup title, and he gained “Man of the Match” award in the final and semi-final of that World cup. In 1989, he was retired from the cricket. In his cricket career, he scored 4378 runs from 69 test matches and 1924 runs from 85 ODI matches. In addition, he gained 32 wickets in tests and 46 wickets in ODI matches. After the retirement, he was worked as cricket coach of many teams, and now he is working as a cricket analyst. Mohinder Amaranth is known for his personality, courage and determination. Many famous cricketers like Sunil Gavaskar, Imran Khan and Malcolm Marshall were praised him as a wonderful batsman in India.
