Famous television personality Oprah Winfrey decided to end her popular daytime talk show “The Oprah Winfrey Show” in September 2011. This talk show is the highest-rated talk show in American television history, which was broadcasted from Chicago on ABC stations across the United States and in more than 140 countries overseas. Oprah Winfrey would make the official announcement on Friday’s live program from Chicago and talk about the reasons behind the decision to end this popular show, which was completed 25 seasons. An expectation is that Winfrey would move to her own cable network titled ‘Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) after ending of this show.

BIOGRAPHY

The most influential television personality Oprah Winfrey was born on 29th January, 1954 in Mississippi, US to unmarried teenage parents Vernita Lee and Vernon Winfrey. Her parents were separated and Winfrey spent her first six years with her grandmother Hattie Mae Lee, who taught her to read before the age of three. In her childhood, she was sexually abused by her cousin, her uncle, and a family friend. She was a brilliant student in her school days. At the age of 13, she ran away from her home suffering years of abuse. Winfrey moved to live with her father in Nashville Tennessee. Her father was a very loving and strict person. Even so, Winfrey struggled with drugs and rebellious behavior. She became pregnant at the age of 14 and her son died shortly after birth. Although her wild behavior conflicted with her father’s strict rules and high standards she eventually began to settle after being awarded a University Scholarship. She gained BA in Speech and Performing Arts from the University. Her father’s high standards inspired her to aim for and achieve more from life. She showed interests in media and journalism. She started her career in media as a news anchor and reporter for a television station in Nashville. She was also worked in morning talk show “People are Talking” at WJZ-TV in Baltimore. Winfrey’s career really raised when she hosted in the early morning talk show titled “AM Chicago” at WLS-TV. She took the charge of this show and renamed as “The Oprah Winfrey Show” which was broadcasted in worldwide on 1986. Winfrey’s production company “Harpo Productions, Inc” produces the program, and she is the host. Very shortly, this show went on to become one of the most successful and highest ranked television talk show programs in history.This show focuses on issues close to Winfrey’s heart and she interviewes celebrities on issues in which they involved such as cancer, charity work, or substance abuse. In addition, she interviews ordinary people who have done extraordinary things or been involved in important current issues. In addition to the talk show host, she is a producer, bussines woman, successful actress, founder of the successful “O, the Oprah Magazine”, co founder of “Oxygen Media”, and a generous Philanthropist. She continues to fulfill dreams through her many business and media interests. She is one of the wealthiest and most powerful women in the United States.
