Former captain Paul Collingwood’s all round performance helped England to gain a seven-wicket victory over South Africa in their second ODI at Centurion. In this match, Collingwood gained an unbeaten century, two wickets and also took an outstanding catch and was awarded ‘Man of the Match’. He overcame the Alec Stewart’s record of the most number of appearances in ODI matches through this match. Now he is England’s most ODI capped cricketer.

BIOGRAPHY

England’s all round player Paul Collingwood was born on 26th May, 1976 in Shotley Bridge, County Durham, England as the son of David Collingwood and Janet Collingwood. He showed interest in cricket in his school days at Blackfyne Comprehensive School. Paul Collingwood’s domestic cricket career started in 1995 with ‘Durham County Cricket Club’, and he made his first–class debut against Northamptonshire in 1996. In his early years, he showed wonderful performance in batting and bowling. His international cricket career started in 2001. He was selected for England’s ODI squad for the ‘NatWest Series’ against Pakistan and Australia. He was not successful in his early days in England team. However, with the help his performance in batting and bowling, the England team whitewash the Zimbabwe team with 5-0 margin in 2001. He made his first ODI century against Sri Lanka in 2002. His entry in the test match was against Sri Lanka in December 2003. In a ODI match against Bangladesh in 2005, Paul Collingwood scored an unbeaten century and took six wickets, and he overcome the record of Viv Richards, who scored a hundred and took five wickets against New Zealand in the 1986/1987 season. He scored a double century during 2006–07 Ashes, which was the first double century by an England batsman in Australia for 78 years. He was not successful with bat and ball in ‘2007 World Cup’. However he was selected as the tournament’s joint top fielder with eight catches along with Graeme Smith. He also took the post of England’s captaincy from 2007 and resigned in 2008. Collingwood also played in England’s Twenty20 matches, and he scored the record of best bowling figures by an Englishman with 4/22 against Sri Lanka in 2006. Now he is the current captain of England’s Twenty20 team. In addition, he is also a player of ‘Delhi Daredevils’ IPL team. He was selected as one of the five ‘Wisden Cricketers of the Year’ in 2007. In addition to the cricket, Collingwood writes a fortnightly column for BBC Online, and he is also a lover of golf and football. He is married to Vicki, and they have two daughters Shannon and Keira.
