SHANE BOND
New Zealand fast bowler Shane Bond decided to end his test cricket career due to injury problems. He will continue to play on one-day internationals and Twenty20s for his country. His first test was against Australia in 2001 and he played 18 Tests for New Zealand. He gained 87 wickets in his test career and currently he is in ninth position in ICC Test bowling ranking list.
BIOGRAPHY
New Zealand cricketer Shane Bond was born on 7th June 1975 in Christchurch, New Zealand. He is considered as the New Zealand’s best fast bowler since Sir Richard Hadlee. He started his domestic career with ‘Canterbury’ team in 1997 and he played only 12 matches in his first three seasons for this team. His bowling figures in that season is excellent. After that, he was unavailable to play for Canterbury due to the injuries. He was also played for English county cricket clubs like ‘Warwickshire’ and ‘Hampshire’. He started his international career with a test match against Australia in 2001. He was selected as player of the tournament in ‘2001-02 VB series’ against Australia and South Africa. He was New Zealand’s top wicket taker on the tour of the West Indies in 2002. Bond’s career has been always in trouble due to the injuries, chiefly recurring stress fractures of the back. In recent years he has suffered back problems, knee injuries and an abdominal tear. Due to these injuries, he limited his appearances in both international and domestic cricket. New Zealand cricket board terminated his central contract in January 2008 due to his involvement in unofficial Indian Cricket League. In June 2009, he had severed ties with the unofficial league, he is available for the national team. He is married to Tracey and they have three children.
