Famous American film director Kathryn Bigelow created a Oscar history on yesterday. She became the first woman in Oscar history to win the director award for her dramatic war thriller film “The Hurt Locker”. This film bagged 6 Oscar award out of nine nominations including ‘Best Picture’, ‘Best Director’, ‘Best Original Screenplay’, ‘Best Film Editing’, ‘Best Sound Editing’, and ‘Best Sound Mixing’. Kathryn Bigelow was competed against her ex-husband James Cameron who is the director of the 3D sci-fi epic film “Avatar” for the ‘Best Director’ award.

BIOGRAPHY

Kathryn Ann Bigelow was born on 27th November, 1951 in San Carlos, California, U.S as the only child of a paint factory manager and a librarian. She started her creative life as a painter and she attended the San Francisco Art Institute and was invited to study at the Whitney Museum Independent Study Program. She studied film criticism at Columbia University in New York. Her  directorial debut was in 1971 with a short film “The Set-Up” which explored the subject of movie violence. Her first full-length feature film was a biker movie “The Loveless” in 1982. Her other notable films are “Near Dark “, “Blue Steel”, “Point Break”, “Strange Days”, “The Weight of Water”, “K-19: The Widowmaker” etc. Her latest film is “The Hurt Locker” which gained six Oscar award, Producers Guild award, BAFTA award and many more awards. she became the first woman in Oscar history to win a Oscar best director award and she was the first woman to win the ‘Directors Guild of America award’ for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in the film “The Hurt Locker”. Bigelow also directed television series like “Homicide: Life on the Street” and “Wild Palms”. She was also appeared in a advertsement and a film. She was married to famous director James Cameron and now they were seperated.

SANDRA BULLOCK

Famous Hollywood actress Sandra Bullock gained an extraordinary achievement in her acting career. She gained ‘Best Actress Oscar’ and ‘Worst Actress Razzie’ awards in the same year. Bullock won her first ‘Oscar award’ for the Best Actress category for the film “The Blind Side”. In this film, she portrays the role of a mother Leigh Anne Tuohy who decides to receive and adopt a large black kid. She won ‘Worst Actress Razzie’ award for her performance in the romantic comedy film “All About Steve”.

Sandra Annette Bullock was born on 26th July, 1964 in Arlington, Virginia, U.S as the daughter of a German opera singer and voice teacher Helga D. Meyer and John W. Bullock. In childhood, she studied ballet and vocal arts and appeared in her mother’s opera productions. In her school days in ‘Washington-Lee High School’, she participated in high school theater productions. She later enrolled in ‘E. Carolina University’ in North Carolina, where she studied acting. She discontinued her graduation in the University and moved to New York to pursue a career on the stage. After that, she acted in many television programs and feature films including “Working Girl “, “Love Potion No. 9″, “The Thing Called Love”, “Fire on the Amazon”, “Demolition Man”, “Wrestling Ernest Hemingway”. She got a break through the performance of the super hit film “Speed” in 1994. This film’s success made her one of Hollywood’s most talked about actresses. Her other notable films are “While You Were Sleeping”, “Forces of Nature”, “Miss Congeniality”, “Two Weeks Notice”, “Lake House”, “Infamous”, “Premonition”, “The Proposal”, “All About Steve” and “The Blind Side”. The films  “The Proposal” and “The Blind Side” were the super hit films of 2009. She won the award for Best Actress at the ‘Golden Globes’, ‘Academy Awards’, and the ‘Screen Actors Guild Award’ for her performance in “The Blind Side”. In addition to the acting field, she is also famous in other fields. She has own production company titled ‘Fortis Films’ and a restaurant, bakery and floral shop. She is also a supporter of the ‘American Red Cross’ and she donated $1 million after the terrorist attacks of 11 September 2001 and $1 million after the tsunami devastation of December 2004 to the American Red Cross society. Sandra Bullock earlier dated to actor Tate Donovan, football player Troy Aikman, Austin musician Bob Schneider and actors Matthew McConaughey and Ryan Gosling. Now she is married to motorcycle builder and ‘Monster Garage’ TV show host Jesse James.
