PHIL MICKELSON

American golfer Phil Mickelson is the new winner of ‘2010 Masters Tournament’. He defeated the English golfer Lee John Westwood on yesterday. This victory was the third Masters victory and fourth major championship of Mickelson. By gaining this victory, he became the eighth player with three Masters titles in the world.

BIOGRAPHY

Philip Alfred Mickelson was born on 16th June, 1970 in San Diego, California as the son of Phil and Mary. His nick name is Lefty. In early days, he was the right handed golfer and then he turned into left handed golfer. As a junior, he won 34 San Diego County junior titles, three NCAA Championships at Arizona State University, a U.S. Amateur title. He turned into professional golfer in 1992 following his graduation in ‘Arizona State University’. For many years, he was considered as the the best player never to win a major title. However, by winning the ‘2004 Masters tournament’, he shut up the mouths of every critic. He also finished second in the U.S. Open, third in the British Open and sixth in the PGA Championship. He again won ‘The Masters’in 2006 and also won PGA title, but he lost in the final of ‘2006 U.S. Open’. In addition, he also won ‘2007 Players Championship’, ‘Deutsche Bank Championship’ etc. In 2009, when his wife Amy was diagnosed with breast cancer then Mickelson said he would suspend his PGA Tour schedule indefinitely. However, he returned to play on the PGA Tour in June at the St. Jude Classic and at the U.S. Open. Then he recorded his fifth runner up finish at the U.S. Open and he won ‘The Tour Championship’, ‘WGC-HSBC Championship’ etc. Mickelson has spent over 600 weeks in the top-10 of the Official World Golf Rankings. Now he won ‘2010 Masters Tournament’ and this is his third Masters victory and his fourth major championship victory. Now Mickelson is considered as one of the most popular golfers in the world. In addition to playing golf,he is a licensed pilot and has his own plane. He has also served as the National Co-Chairman for the American Junior Golf Association. He has endorsement contracts with KPMG and Barclays and he gained many millions from these endorsements. He is married to Amy and they have three children Amanda, Sophia and Evan.
