Dalia Contreras of Venezuela won bronze medal in 49kg Taekwondo in Beijing Olympics. It is the only one medal of Venezuela in Beijing. She defeated Kenya’s Mildred Alango in the quarterfinal with the score 1-0. She was also participated in Athens Olympics, but she finished in 8th position. She is the silver winner of Pan American Games. She also won bronze medal in 2001 and 2003 World Taekwondo Championships. She is the gold winner of 2002 and 2006 Central American and Caribbean Games and 2006 South American Games. By winning the bronze medal in Beijing, she fulfilled all the expectations of people of Venezuela.

Mauritius send 12 competitors to participate in 7 sports events in Beijing. They received only one bronze medal in this summer Olympics. Stephan Buckland was the flag bearer of the country in the opening ceremony in Beijing Olympics. In the 2004 Olympics, they can’t achieve any medal. Buckland and Milazar are famous sportsmen in Mauritius. In Athens, Buckland went one better than he managed at the 2000 Olympic Games. He reached the final of the 200m and finished sixth overall. Milazar also improved, reaching the semi finals of the 400m. Both athletes reached finals in their respective events at the 2001 and 2003 World Championships. At the 2000 Olympic Games, Buckland missed the final by two places and Milazar missed the semi-finals by one. This bronze medal was the first medal for the country. Bruno Julie won the medal for boxing. Some details about him is following.

Bruno Julie, nicknamed the “Mauritan magician” by the commentators won the bronze medal for the bantamweight in this summer Olympics. He won several medals in international tournaments. His first international tournament is 2002 Commonwealth games. He reached the quarter final in this competition. In 2006 he reached the final by defeating Mmoloki Nogeng, losing only to India’s Akhil Kumar. In 2007, Julie won gold medals at the Commonwealth Championships in Liverpool and at the African Championships in Tana. He won a further gold medal at the African Cup of Nations in his native country and clinched his second gold medal at the Indian Ocean Games in Madagascar, four years after his first one in Mauritius. Bruno Julie’s bronze is the first Olympic medal of the country.
