In India’s new Congress-led Government, Manmohan Singh was selected as the prime minister along with cabinet ministers. The Kerala Congress senior Leaders Vayalar Ravi, A.K. Antony. K.V Thomas and Mullappilly Ramachandran were also selected in the Central Cabinet. It is the greatest news for Kerala. Kerala politician Vayalar Ravi was appointed as the minister of overseas Indian affairs in Manmohan Singh Government. He was also served as the same position in the previous Manmohan Singh government.

BIOGRAPHY

Kerala politician Vayalar Ravi was born in 1937,  in Vayalar village of Alappuzha district of Kerala. He belongs to a political family. His father Mr. M.K Krishnan was a freedom fighter, a social activist and secretary of SNDP Taluka Committee for a long period. His mother Mrs. Devaky Krishnan was a prominent political congress leader of Kerala and also was the President of Kerala State Mahila Congress. Vayalar Ravi is married to a political worker and a writer Mercy Ravi and they have a son and two daughters. He is a good politician in the history of Kerala politics. His political career was spreaded in more than 50 years. He was started his political career as a “Kerala Students Union” (KSU) leader in 1957. He was the founder president of the KSU, the students’ wing of Indian National Congress in Kerala. He was associated with Youth Congress and in 1965, he became the president of the Kerala Pradesh Youth Congress. In 1967, he was elected to the KPCC and became an AICC member. In 1971 and 1977, he was elected to the Lok Sabha.  In 1982, he became the Home Minister of Kerala, but resigned in 1986 on difference opinion with the Chief Minister K. Karunakaran. In 2001, he became the general secretary of the All India Congress Committee. He was elected to the Rajya Sabha in 1996 and 2003. In 2006, he was appointed as the Union Cabinet Minister for Overseas Affairs of India. In 2009, he was again appointed as  the minister of overseas Indian affairs in Manmohan Singh’s Government. As Union Cabinet Minister for Overseas Affairs, he was succeeded to solve many issues of overseas workers. He also plans to set a university dedicated to overseas Indians’ children. He introduced a welfare fund for overseas Indians. He loves travel and he  has represented India three times at the United Nations General Assembly. He was  a well-known trade union leader of Kerala. He was continued to be the President of the Cochin Port Trust Workers’ Union for the last 30 years. He is a active politician, a good writer and an outstanding parliamentarian who always raised his voice in favor of the poor and weaker sections of society.

P CHIDAMBARAM

Indian politician P. Chidambaram is again selected as the Home minister of India. He was also served the India as a Finance Minister from 2004 to 2008. He is considered as one of the most outstanding cabinet ministers of the UPA Government led by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Terrorism, naxalite violence and revolution in the northeast  are the main challenges of this government. New Home minister Chidambaram said that his government would respond to these threats by using modern systems, highly trained human resource and advanced technological tools.

BIOGRAPHY

Chidambaram was born in Sivaganga District of Tamil Nadu, India as the son of L. Ct. L. Palaniappa Chettiar and Mrs. Lakshmi Achi. He belongs to a royal family. He gained his school education from “Madras Christian College Hr.Sec.School”, Chennai and  B.Sc. degree in Statistics from “The Presidency College”, Chennai. He also gained LL.B from the “Madras Law College” and MBA from “Harvard Business School”, Harvard University. He is married to  Nalini, a successful lawyer and they have a son named Karti P Chidambaram. He started his career as an advocate in the Chennai High Court and soon became very successful in this field. His political career was started in 1984, when he was first elected to the Lok Sabha from the Sivaganga constituency in Tamil Nadu. He was re-elected from the same constituency in five consecutive general elections, and he became a Deputy Minister under the government led by Rajiv Gandhi. His main action as a minister was to control the price of the tea. But he has been criticized by the Government of Sri Lanka for destroying the Sri Lankan tea trade.  He also holds Commerce & Finance portfolios in various governments. In 1991, Chidambaram became a Minister of State in the Ministry of Commerce. He made some revolutionary changes in India’s export-import policy, when he was in Ministry of Commerce. In 1996, he quit the Congress and joined the Tamil Maanila Congress (TMC). In 1996, TMC joined the coalition government and P. Chidambaram became the Union Finance Minister. He is well known for his good policies that lead India on a steady growth path. He was again joined the Congress party before the elections of 2004. In 2008, he moved from Finance portfolio to Home portfolio after the resignation of Home minister Shivraj Patil. As a home minister, he has proposed steps to bring various agencies that are responsible for law and order together and work in a unified manner. He has very important place in India’s economic reforms along with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. His many important moves in Indian economy helped India from the impact of recession.
