The IPL team ‘Royal Challengers Bangalore’ pacer Praveen Kumar attained a great achievement in the third season of the ‘Indian Premier League’(IPL) on yesterday. He gained the first hat-trick of the third edition of the IPL in the match against Rajasthan Royals. His hat-trick was the seventh hat-trick in the history of IPL tournament. In addition to the player of Royal Challengers Bangalore, Praveen Kumar is also a player of the ‘Indian national team’ and ‘Uttar Pradesh domestic cricket team’.

BIOGRAPHY

Praveenkumar Sakat Singh was born 2nd October, 1986 in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, India. He is a fast-medium pacer, a hard-hitting batsman and an excellent ground fielder. Earlier, he played in the domestic cricket for Uttar Pradesh. He gained 90 wickets in his first two domestic seasons. With this performance, he was selected into ‘India A’ team. He was again shined with ‘India A’ team by taking 67 wickets in 39 matches. With his impressive figures in domestic cricket and India A team, he was selected in the India’s national team. His debut international match was against Pakistan in 2007. He gained no wickets in his first two ODI matches, but in the third match, he gained 4 wickets which helped India to defeat Sri Lanka. He  gained four wickets in a winning match against Australia in the final of the 2007-08 CB Series and he was declared as ‘Man of the Match’. He gained 40 wickets in 34 ODI matches. He is one of the best medium pace bowlers of the Indian team and he has the ability to swing the ball both ways along with line and length over speed. Recent times, he also showed keen interest in batting. He is also a player of ‘Royal Challengers Bangalore’ IPL team. He showed wonderful performance in bowling and batting in the second season of the IPL where his team came runners up. In this third season of IPL, he gained first hat-trick of this season in the match against Rajasthan Royals. He gained the wickets of Damein Martyn, Narwal and Dogra of Rajasthan Royals to reach his first hat-trick. In addition, his hat-trick was the seventh hat-trick in the history of IPL tournament.

5TH COMMONWEALTH BOXING CHAMPIONSHIP, 2010

Indian boxers really ruled in the boxing ring at the ‘5th Commonwealth Boxing Championship’. They gained team championship with six gold medals. Defending champion England is the runners up of this Championship. Olympic and World medallist Vijender Singh gained gold medal in 75 kg category. In this category, he overcome a strong challenge from England’s Frank Buglioni by ignoring the bleeding nose. It is his first international gold medal in two years. Other gold medalists are Olympian Dinesh Kumar in 81 kg category, Asian champion Suranjoy Singh in 52kg, South Asian Games gold medallist Amandeep Singh in 49kg, Asian silver medallist Jai Bhagwan in 60kg and Paramjeet Samota in +91kg category. India competed in this championship with ten members. In these members, Akhil Kumar , Balwinder Beniwal , Dilbagh Singh and Manpreet Singh were defeated in the quarterfinal stage. Previously, India won this Championship in 2005 with four gold and three silver medals in Glasgow. In 2007, India was the runners up by gaining a gold, two silver and three bronze medals. In 2010, Indian team again won team championship and it is one of the best performances by the Indian boxers in recent times. By this achievement, Indian boxing team got team and kit sponsor with the ‘Monnet Steel’ group. In addition, the famous sports and entertainment management firm ‘Perccept’ has signed five boxers including Vijender Singh, Dinesh Kumar, Suranjoy Singh, Jai Bhagwan and Balwinder Beniwal for the period of three years endorsement deal. Percept also awarded each boxer Rs 25,000 and a Siyaram’s suit.

ABOUT 5TH COMMONWEALTH BOXING CHAMPIONSHIP

The ‘5th Commonwealth Boxing Championship’ was held on 12th March to 17th March, 2010 at Talkatora Stadium, New Delhi. Over 100 boxers from 14 countries in over 100 bouts were participated in this prestigious Championship. All major commonwealth boxing nations including India, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Singapore, England, Wales, Scotland, New Zealand, Samoa, Sierra Leone, Kenya, Tanzania, Mauritius, Botswana, and the Bahamas were participated in this prestigious event. The boxers are separated in 10 following weight categories 49 kgs, 52 kgs, 56 kgs, 60 kgs, 64 kgs, 69 kgs, 75kgs, 81 kgs, 91 kgs, + 91 kgs. The tournament is a test event for the upcoming ‘Commonwealth Games’.
