Former World No. 1 American tennis player Andy Roddick reached in the quarter final of the ‘Sony Ericsson Open tournament’ by defeating Germany’s Benjamin Becker with the score 7-6 (4), 6-3. Roddick is the winner of the U.S Open Championship in 2003.

BIOGRAPHY

Andy Roddick was born on 30th August 30, 1982 in Omaha, Nebraska as the son of a businessman Jerry and a school teacher Blanche Roddick. His two older brothers are also tennis players. He gained his school education from ‘Boca Prep International School’ and graduation from ‘Highlands Christian Academy’. In school days, he was interested in basketball and then turned into tennis. He showed wonderful performance in junior level tennis. He won six world junior singles and seven doubles titles and also won the ‘US Open’ and ‘Australian Open’ junior singles titles. The year 2003 was the breakthrough year of him. In that year, he reached in the quarter final of the ‘Australian Open’ and also reached in the semi final of the ‘Wimbledon’. He gained ‘US open’ of that year by defeating world no 3 Juan Carlos Ferrero in the final and he was ranked no 1 tennis player in the end of that year. Thus he became the youngest American to hold this rank since computer rankings were started in 1973. In 2004, he was defeated by Roger Federer in his first Wimbledon final and he finished that year with ranked as the world no 2. He started the year 2010 with the victory at ‘Brisbane International’ tournament. In ‘2010 Australian Open’, he failed in the quarter final. He is currently playing in the ‘2010 Sony Ericsson Open’ in which he reached in the quarter final by defeating Igor Andreev, Sergiy Stakhovsky and Benjamin Becker in straight sets. Roddick is also a player of United States Davis Cup team and he helped US to gain a victory in ‘2007 Davis Cup’. He is well known for his powerful first serve and he is the holder of the fastest serve measured at 155 mph. In addition to the tennis, Roddick appeared as the host of many television shows like “Friday Night with Jonathan Ross”. He also appeared in the music video “Speed Feels Better” for singer/songwriter Michael Tolcher. He started ‘Andy Roddick Foundation’ which is a non-profit organization that aims to provide children in need with quality education and other necessary resources. He gained many awards including ‘Arthur Ashe Humanitarian Award’ for his charity works for the for the survivors of the tsunami. Roddick is married to a fashion model Brooklyn Decker. Overall, Roddick is an extra ordinary tennis player and his hard serves and vicous forehand have made him one of the top ranked tennis players in the world. .

Belgian tennis player Olivier Rochus gained the biggest victory in his tennis career in ‘Miami Masters’ tennis tournament. He defeated the world number two tennis player Novak Djokovic in his opening match of the ‘2010 Sony Ericsson Open’ or ‘Miami Masters’ tennis tournament with the score 2-6, 7-6, 4-6.

Olivier Rochus was born on 18th January, 1981 in Namur, Belgium as the son of doctor Jean-Paul and dentist Anne. He started playing at the age of six along with his older brother Christophe who is also a tennis player. In junior level, he showed talent in tennis. He was the partner of Roger Federer in the junior level tennis. He won Wimbledon junior doubles title with Roger Federer in 1998 and ‘French Open doubles’ title with Belgian tennis player Xavier Malisse in 2004. In addition, he also entered in the junior doubles semi final of the ‘French Open’ and ‘Wimbledon’ in 1997. He turned into professinal in 1999. In 2006, he won his first ATP tournament in Munich by defeating his country mate Kristof Vliegen with the score 6–4, 6–2 in the final. His his biggest win in the senior level was at ‘Wimbledon’ in 2002, where he defeated the top player Marat Safin. In ‘2009 If Stockholm Open’ tournament, he reached in the final, but he was defeated by world no. 8 player Marcos Baghdatis. Now, he defeated the world number two tennis player Novak Djokovic in his opening match of the ‘2010 Sony Ericsson Open’ or ‘Miami Masters’ tennis tournament with the score 2-6, 7-6, 4-6. Olivier Rochus is famous for his backhand return and his favorite surface is hard courts. In addition to the tennis, he is also liked to play table tennis and handball.
