The movie “Karthik Calling Karthik” is a story about a shy person Karthik (Farhan) He had a average job and his boss treats him like a worthless person. Karthik is a very sad and frustrated individual who has lots of emotional issues. He secretely loves his colleague Shonali(Deepika Padukone), but she was unawrare of this matter. One day, his life changes with a anonymous phone call of someone who also claims to be Karthik. That anonymous person told that he is here to change Karthik’s life. Later, Karthik accepts that phone in his life and soon it becomes his guide, his mentor, friend and guardian. Most importantly it becomes the ticket to the love of his life. Shonali and Karthik’s life changes in ways that he hadn’t imagined with the help of that anonymous phone call. The title of this movie is very suitable to the movie. This film is really a thrilling, soulful and romantic journey of man’s victory against all odds  All the actors did wonderful performance in this film. South African player Hashim Amla’s first double century helped South Africa to build a huge total in their first innings of the first test against India. With the help of Hashim Amla’s unbeaten 253 runs, South Africa declared their first innings with 558 runs for six wickets. By winning this double century, Amla became the second South African batsman to score a double century against India. It was not Amla’s first best performance against India. He gained unbeaten 159 runs in a test against India in 2008.

South Africa’s right-handed batsman Hashim Amla was born in a Muslim family on 31st March, 1983 in Durban, Natal, South Africa. He is the first South African player of Indian descent. His grandparents were from Gujarat state of India and migrated into South Africa many years ago. His elder brother, Ahmed is also a professional cricketer. Amla started his cricket career by playing for provincial team ‘KwaZulu Natal Dolphins’. After that, he was selected as captain of South Africa at the ‘2002 Under-19 Cricket World Cup’. Under his leadership, the team reached in the final. At the age of 21, he started his international career in cricket. His first match was against India in 2004. In the initial days, his performance was not good and gained everybody’s attention by gaining 149 runs against New Zealand in 2006. After that, Amla made his position in the South African team strong through his wonderful batting performance. In 2008, he scored an unbeaten 159 against India and gained many centuries against England and Australia. Amla helped South Africa to win a historic Test and one day series victory over Australia and a victory over England in 2009. In 2009, he was also played for English county club ‘Essex’, and he gained two centuries in two Championship matches. Now, he gained unbeaten 253 runs against India, which was his best and the highest score by a South African at number 3 position and the highest by a South African against India. But these films were flopped in the box office. In 2004, he got a break through Mani Ratnam’s movie “Yuva”. He gained ‘Filmfare Best Supporting Award’ for the performance of this film. In the same year, he appeared in another hit film “Dhoom”. The year 2005 was good for him. In that year, he acted in many hit films like “Bunty Aur Babli”,” Sarkar”, “Dus” and “Bluffmaster”. Abhishek’s role of Shankar Nagre in the film “Sarkar” won him the ‘Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award’. Surya(Siddharth) is born into a poor family in the slum area of Malwani. He did not gained more school education due to the poor family background. The ‘11th Mumbai International Film Festival’ was started on yesterday at National Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA) complex in South Mumbai. It is a festival for Documentary, Short and Animation Films. The 11th edition festival was inaugurated by Veteran film maker Yash Chopra, and it will be ended on 9th February, 2010. Union minister for information and broadcasting Ambika Soni, the actors Ajay Devgan, Tanushree Datta and Oscar Award winning sound recordist Resul Pookutty was also present in the inauguration ceremony. This festival was started with Naresh Bedi’s Documentary “On a Tiger Trail” and Shih-Ting Hung’s “Viola: The Traveling Rooms of a Little Giant”. This six day festival is organized by the Films Division of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and the Maharashtra government. 200 films from 37 countries are participating in this festival in different categories including Puppet Film section, Cinema Legends, Science Fiction, Environment, North East India and newly-created Best Student Cinema section. A number of interactive sessions, seminars and forums are also included in this festival. The seminars will highlight topics like documentary culture, working environment for the documentary filmmaker, raising funds, changing style of acting, content in Indian Cinema. There is also speech of many celebrities including Subhash Ghai, Javed Akhtar, Mahesh Manjrekar and Mike Pandey. This festival exclusively showcasing short films and documentaries. So short films and documentaries got more popularity through this festival. The popularity of this festival is increased year to year. The 11th edition of this Festival received 864 entries from 37 countries and about 43 films are to be screened in the Non-Competition Section. Some changes have been introduced in this edition. `Competition’ category now covers both International and Indian sections. An award for Best Student Film/Video has been introduced as also the Dr. V. Shantaram Lifetime Achievement Award, which includes a cash award and trophy. This year, Lifetime Achievement Award will be given to MV Krishna Swamy for his contribution to documentary film movement.

MUMBAI INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL (MIFF)

‘Mumbai International Film Festival’ is a festival focused on documentary, short and animation films. It was started on 1990 and this six day festival organized in the city of Mumbai by the ‘Film Division’, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting , Govt. of India and the Maharashtra government. Now this festival is risen into high position on the world’s documentary film festival circuit. The awards of this festival are amazing. The best short film or documentary upto 30 minutes will be awarded a Golden Conch and cash prize of Rs 300000. Another Golden Conch and Rs 300000 cash award will be given to the best film or documentary over 30 minutes duration. There are also awards for best animation film, fiction film and student’s film. Government of Maharashtra’s Dadasaheb Phalke Chitranagari will give a Trophy and Rs 100000 for best debut film of a director. ‘Dr V Shantaram Lifetime Achievement Award’ which carries cash prize of Rs 5 lakh will also be given in this festival.

“My Name Is Khan” is the most awaited movie of the year 2010. This is based on a true story, and it is about a Muslim man Rizwan Khan (Shahrukh Khan)who suffers from Asperger syndrome. In childhood, Rizwan lived with his mother (Zarina Wahab) in the Borivali section of Mumbai. When he has grown up, Rizwan moved to San Francisco to live with his brother and sister-in-law.There he falls in love with a Hindu woman Mandira (Kajol). Despite protests from his family, they get married and start a small business together. They are happy until September 11 attacks by al-Qaeda on US. After that tragedy, the attitudes towards Muslims were changed. Rizwan and Mandira had to face a number of difficulties, which caused them to separate. In order to win her back, Rizwan made a touching and inspiring journey across the United States. In the process of that journey, he produces optimism and joy in the hearts of the people by spreading of messages of goodwill, wherever he roams. On that journey, he was even arrested because, the authorities thought that he is acting suspicious, but the fact that it is due to his disability that he is acting like that. Director Karan Johar says about this film is that terrorism has no religion, and it will never have a religion. He believed that he has a social responsibility to fulfill that fact. Main actor Shahrukh Khan commented that this film is not about a disabled man’s fight against disability, but the fight against the disability including terrorism, hatred, fighting, etc exists in the world. Kajol is played the role of Shahrukh Khan’s wife in this film. She paired with him after a gap of many years. Kajol and Shahrukh’s on-screen chemistry had helped deliver several hit films in the past. Shahrukh Khan, Kajol and Karan Johar’s previous movie “Kuch Kuch Hota Hai” was one of the biggest hits of the 90’s. Academy award is one of the most honorary award in the world for the film industry. This prestigious award is given annually by ‘Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’, US to those people including directors, actors, and writers who showed their talent in the film industry. These awards are given in the most prestigious award ceremony. This award ceremony is considered to be the “big day” of all the movie crews. Famous Malayalam film actor Cochin Haneefa passed away on today afternoon at Chennai Sree Ramachandra Medical Hospital due to chronic liver cancer. Haneefa was a versatile actor in Malayalam movies. He showed his talent in villain and comdey roles in many films.

BIOGRAPHY

Famous film actor, director, and screenwriter Cochin Haneefa was born on 22nd April 1951 in Kochi, Kerala, India as the son of Muhammed and Hajira. His original name is Salim Ahmed Ghoush. He gained his school education from ‘St. Augustine’s School’, Kochi and graduation from ‘St. Albert’s College’, Ernakulam. Earlier, he was a comedian in a comedy group ‘Cochin Kalabhavan Troupe’ and later he turned into films. He started his film career in 1979 in a small role in the film ‘Ashtavakran’. Mostly, he acted in the role of villain in the initial stages of his film career and later he turned into comedy roles. He acted in the comedy roles very easily and his appearance in the screen created a laugh riot in the theatres. He has acted in more than 300 films in Malayalam, Tamil and Hindi films. Haneefa had essayed memorable roles in many Malayalam movies, including Hydrose in “Kireedam”, Eldo in “Mannar Mathai speaking”, Mani Uncle in “Soothradharan”, Thrivikraman in “Meesamadhavan” and the mental hospital warden in “Thalavattam”. He had acted with almost all Malayalam heroes from the late Prem Nazir to Prithviraj and his last Malayalam movie was “Body Guard” with Dileep. In addition to the Malayalam movies, he acted in more than 80 Tamil films. His most popular Tamil film is “Mahanadi” and this film give him a major break in Tamil films. His other notable Tamil films are “Kadhala Kadhala”, “Sivaji” and “Anniyan”. His last Tamil movie is “Vettaikaran”. In addition to the acting, Haneefa also concentrated on the other area of film making such as direction and screenplay writing. As a director, he was famous for the film “Valsalyam” which was box office hit and won critical acclaim. “Bheesmacharya”, “Veena Meettiya Vilangukal”, “Aankiliyude Tharattu”, “Oru Sindoora Pottinte Ormaykku”, “Moonnu Masangalkku Munpu”, “Oru Sandesam Koodi” are the other films which were directed by him. For his performance, he gained awards including ‘Second Best Actor’ award for the film “Soothradharan” and ‘Best Supporting Actor’ award. He is married to Fasila, and they have twin children Safa and Marwa. Haneefa is the third major Malayalam star who has passed away in recent months after Murali and Rajan P Dev. So his death was a big lose to the Malayalam film industry.
